The winners and some of their major achievements are: By efficiently producing crops on the 105 acre home of his parents, Dennis Richardson, 16, of Smithfield was named State winner in the Field Crops program. A $50 U. S. Savings Bond, provided by International Harvester Co., is his reward. Dennis was able to achieve that recognition through careful attention to every phase of crop production, such as keeping farm machinery in condition, selection and treatment of seed, and scientific soil management. for six years under the A supervision of Robert Gittens, he began his Field Crops project in the winter of 1948. His first crop was corn, which he planted on 5 acres of subirrigatedland. He has also planted wheat and peas. Thus far his best crop has been wheat, his last crop yielding 64 bushels per acre. He has also won other awards for his crops. This year he participated in crops judging in 4-- Dannit Richardion Gary Egbert This year Gary had two blue award steers at the county fair, and one blue and one red award steer at the International Fat Stock Show, lie also received third place in fitting and showing at the county fair. He intends to use profits from the sale of his itock to buy a cattle ranch. He raised one Hereford and one Shorthorn calf this year.
