Show A Leader Pictorial By A. N. Ryttin MMIMHHVaHMMaaaMliajHVViaMBMHaeiiMnKiBnMMM Some two weeks ago, Karl Josephson, supervisor of the Box Elder County Mosquito Abatement committee made a date with the writer for a quick d the valley to see how some of the farm homes are disposing of their sewage. Not Exaggerated Folks, all that I had previously heard about unsanitary conditions in the valley and county have not been exagerated in the least After spending two hours on the trip, it left one with no immediate desire to eat a hearty meal. Again, as in other articles in this series, there is no desire to offend anyone, bat these conditions do exist, and the citizens will never take action to correct situation the unsanitary which threatens the health of the entire county, until they are made aware of the danger that exists. We made a check on one of the big feeder canals and in a space of a mile and a half, found not less than six sewer outlets pouring into the canal with about the same number of pumps SECTION SECOND HI m 11 A IB IE IB RIVER BEAR THE SERVING t VALLEY look-aroun- BARBARA BURNETT PLAYS PRELUDE Barbara Burnett of Tremon- I This is a typical bar pit disposition for home sewage. taking water out of the canal to use on lawns and gardens. One of the largest sources of sewage disposal appears to be the bar pits along the public highway. The pictures used in connection with this article were taken before the irrigation water was turned into the canals and before the bar pits were filled with water. Near Front Doors In many cases the sewage is dumped within 75 to 100 feet of the front door of the farm home. Where there is no flow of running water to carry it away, it lays dormant and becomes a fertile stagnant breeding place for any type of contagious disease carriers. In our checking we found that the county, city, businesses and the general public, are all contributing to the sewage disposal hazards of the county-- . The Mosquito Abatement com mittee states that all the spray ing they do cannot destroy as fast as they will breed under such conditions By actual count there are 45 homes and businesses which use the canals and bar pits in the valley as sewage disposals. Some of the sewage is raw, the rest has been filtered through cess pools and then drains into the canals and bar pits. This is one of the large cutlets that drains sewage into the canal system of the valley. First in I 3-- D v Tremonton. Utah. It really seemed nice to have a little trip after having been in Sunsvall for over seven months. The country between here and Ostersund is mostly rolling hills and pine trees with numerous lakes and streams. The morning that we left we had a heavy snow fall so everything wag covered with pretty white snow and it was truly a beautiful ride, and it was very interesting to see the logs in the rivers and the numerous saw mills along the way. 4-- II tats i t d, jtf r , sz v-"- J ' Other Fins "TEU-TEX- Shirts $5X5 to S15.C5 " GEPHART STORES CO "BUY FOR CASH AND PAY LESS" rnnvY LIBERTY THEATRE New -- JOAN WAYNE MORRIS Big WELD ON NEW LOW PRICES Co-H- it -- T R E M ONTON Adults 5fjt' Children 20 1 FRIDAY and SATURDAY.
