The school band played two numbers, the colors were presented by scouts, Ralph Anderson, Larry Butler, and Darwin Harris. Lighting of the birthday cake j j , ceremony was participated in by Marilyn Anderson, Sheryl Pugs- ley and Margaret Ann Nielson. Thatcher, second place winners received a $10.00 credit from Hepp's Sport Shop, who also gave a $10.00 credit to Elwood as consolation prize, and a $5.00 credit to third place winner, the Garland school's first team. The standing of teams in the tournament" was Portage, first; Thatcher, second; Garland first team, third; Garland second team, fourth; and Elwood, con solation. The high school athletic department was assisted by the principals of the various ele mentary schools in staging the tournament. Coded identification will not be interpreted tintil the results are studied later. The health records of children receiving the substitute are need ed for comparison in the scientific evaluation of the trial vaccine's effectiveness in preventing paralytic polio. Dates for starting the tests locally will be announced later. "I commend this historic project to our people," Dr. Felt stated. "It constitutes the largest test program of its kind in medical history. Its purpose is to determine the effectiveness of a trial vaccine in preventing paralytic polio.
