Mr. Hersey's appointment followed the recent resignation of Allen H. Tibbals as executive director of Blue Shield. Mr. Tibbals, who held that post since 1947, will practice law in Salt Lake City. Mr. Hersey assumed his duties with Blue Cross in September, 1949. He came to Utah following a period of service with Michigan's Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans. Utah's Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans are part of a national organization with more than members. In Utah, 75,777 people belong to Blue Cross, while Blue Shield has 53,795 members. Since it was established in 1945, Utah's Blue Cross has paid hospital bills amounting to $3,287,667, while Blue Shield has paid $1,045,-10- 6 in surgical benefits since iU establishment in 1946. ho.
