This event is sponsored by The Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids and the Southwest Utah Public Health Department. KBD is a day for individuals to stand up, speak out and seize control in the fight against big tobacco. It is an important opportunity for our communities to raise awareness about the tobacco problem and support strong .tobacco prevention policies. This year the Southwest Utah Chapter of the Phoenix Alliance, Utah's youth driven group, will be staging a large awareness campaign as part of KBD. On Wednesday, March 28th the Beaver Chapter will unveil their public display at Beaver City Park, representing the harmful impacts tobacco has on people across the U.S. and Utah. Organizers of this event want to make it clear that they are not against tobacco users; rather they disagree with tobacco companies' manipulation tactics to hook good people on their deadly products. Mayor Foster says: "This program is a wonderful 'grass roots' approach to one of the most pressing health concerns of our day. hope we'll all get behind the effort and make it a success here in Beaver." We are excited that their fields will be ready to use before the season ends. This could not have happened without many hours of hard work. We want to Thank Kenny Yardley and his group from the prison, who really helped with hours of quality manual labor necessary to accomplishing this project. We want to recognize the Beaver City crews who have been working hard getting things in order doing everything from sprinkler systems to dirt work in an effort it to keep this project on course. And a special thanks for Kenton Moss for his time during lunch after work and on hour, Saturdays preparing the infield and baselines. This has been a challenging but worth while pro- ject and it has taken everyone from the city council, the city crew, to the many volunteers to get things done. The Girls softball field on the south-wecorner is almost ready for play, the infield dirt is in place and bases are set. The last bit of fencing needs to be st finished. The Boys baseball field on is now receiving the north-eainfield dirt, the fencing and minor details are being fixed, setting 2nd base and building the pitching mound are all that is left to make the field ready for st Play- - Grooming is being done on areas between the fields and the concessions building. In time we hope to have cement walk ways, grass on the berms and bleachers for spectators. To finalize the dugouts we are looking for eight families, businesses or groups that would like to adopt a dugout. This would mean a group would purchase the equipment necessary for the inside of a dug out. (team benches, shelving for helmets and equipment, etc). The cost per dugout on the south fields is 0 each. The cost for the 4 dugout to the north will be A Metal donor $1000 each. plaque will be placed on each the $1500-$200- in interested pletion. Anyone needs to contact Joe White, or Craig Davidson, as soon as possible, so the dugout maybe completed prior to ballgames. We are always looking for volunteers to help to complete the project. Anyone willing to donate an evening contact Kelly Bradshaw or Kenton Moss, or stop up to the fields, there is someone there usually everynight, we would love to have your help. Good-Luc- k to the Girls Softball and Boys Baseball teams! We look forward to watching you play on your new fields.
