Dated back on February 6, 1914, a large package was delivered to John and Elizabeth Grimshaw's home in Beaver, Utah. The content of this package was a beautiful baby girl. This baby was the 10th child for John and Mary (Mae) and was greeted by a house full of family. Needless to say she received a lot of attention and she loved every minute. Merle grew to be a happy child and in time attended elementary school at Belknap in Beaver and then on to Beaver High School. She graduated from there in 1932. Merle lived at home with her parents, helping to care for her mother who was in poor health. During the years 1932 and 1934 she met and dated Joseph P. Nelson and on the day of May 16, 1934, she married Joe at her parent's home in Beaver. At a later date, May 16, 1950, their family attended the St George Temple and was sealed as a family for time and eternity. Merle a nd Joe went t o L as Vegas s oon after their m arriage where Joe worked on the Boulder Dam. They lived there for nearly two years and then moved back to Beaver in 1936. In the year 1995 the cancer progressed and on August 29, 1995, he passed away in the Beaver Hospital. During that time Joe spent most of his time at the hospital in Beaver until his death in 1995. Merle still resides at the Hill Top Apartments and even at the age of 89 she is young at heart and is happy to be alive. She is so grateful for friends and family and would like to express her gratitude to them for their kindness to her. Senior News... It's been a strange month, with some strange weather. The seniors asked many questions and gave input for future needs. Some of the ideas presented were the need for a bicyclewalking path in the Beaver canyon, guardrails on the hill coming into Beaver from the south, the need for guardrails on the new interchange in Cedar City and the need for smooth rides on the freeway (concrete vs. asphalt). It was an insightful presentation. The Staff will be heading to St. George in March for the Foodshow and training workshops.
