The Beavers started off the first inning with 1 run lead. Heather Gale hit a double for Beaver, bringing in 2 runs. Monticello came to bat, and their pitcher, Kourtney Young, hit a home run deep into right field. No runs were scored by either team in the 2nd inning. In the 3rd inning, Heather Gale hit a grand slam with the bases loaded. Kourtney Lessing hit a double to bring in 2 more runs. At the end of the 3rd inning. Beaver had a 10-- 3 lead. In the 4th inning, Beaver played fine defense with Lacy Goodwin striking out tow batters. The girls played well and ended the game 2-- 18 to 5. winning ' Outstanding defensive players included Heather Oakden as catcher, Chanda Paskett on first base, and Sunny Myers in center field. The JV played after the varsity, and they defeated Monticello 28 to 3. Leading hitters for Beaver JV were Jeanette Marshall hitting a home run and Kellee Eyre hitting two home runs. The JV team has done very well this season, and they show much potential for coming years. The JV pitcher is Mandy Davis, and Nicole Bradshaw plays catcher. David White President, Norman L. Lamb and Board Members Pat Rimpau, Rondo T. Farrer, and G. Brent Edwards. Also, present were Superintendent Carl M Holmes, Assistant Superintendent Donald J. Willden, and Business Manager Nicholas R. Dotson. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 AM. and an invocation was offered by G. Brent Edwards. It was moved by Pat Rimpau, seconded by Norman L. Lamb, and unanimously passed that the minutes of March 1 , 1 994, be approved. It was moved by Rondo T. Farrer, seconded by G. Brent Edwards, and unanimously passed that the bills be approved. Mr. Willden reviewed the Drug Testing Requirements for Bus Drivers and the requirement that all district personnel receive the Risk Management Driver Training Program. Milford High School Booster Club met with the Board and President, Kathy Acklin presented a pro-- . posal and request for track and baseball equipment in the amount of $4,060.00. After much discussion it was moved by Norman L. Lamb, seconded by Pat Rimpau, and unanimously passed that $2,000.00 be allocated from the Recreation Fund as matching money $2,000.00 Beaver County School District, $2,000.00 Booster Club. Also discussed was installation of a current retaining wall inside of the new track of Milford High School, tabled until more information is received $1 ,000.00 is available from United Way to help with the project. Sheriffs Report beaver Premiere Cable Activates New Antenna Facility There will be minor interruptions On April 21, 1994, Premiere Cable II, Ltd. will activate their new antenna facility and newly con- structed service in Beaver, Utah. The cable company has been working the past few months building new lines and replacing old lines throughout Beaver. The new antenna facility was built due to new construction of the LOS Seminary Building at the old site aa well as the new school. Massachusetts were booked into Beaver County Jail on charges of Possession of Cocaine and Smuggling Cocaine after a stop by UHP Trooper. The pair were released to DEA (Drug Enforcement) officers. An incident of Aggravated Assault is under investigation following an incident "in North Creek. It was the second largest cocaine bust in the state of Utah, with an estimated street value of $35 million dollars. 27-ye- ar 33-ye- ar Prevention Task Force Formed Following participation in a workshop on alcohol and drug prevention, sponsored by Southwest Utah Mental Health Alcohol and Drug Center, a group of concerned citizens have formed the Beaver County Prevention Task Force. Their first community meeting was held March 16, at which time they reaffirmed their commitment, defined their purpose and elected officers. Officers elected for one-yeterms were: Cathy Moran, Chair man; Karla Campeau, Secretary; Eddie Erickson, Timekeeper; Don Hagberg, Publicity; Eva Finch (Milford), Karen Erickson (Beaver), and Katherine Evans (Minersville) as Community Coordinators. During the second Task Force meeting April 6, they formulated their mission statement which is, "To raise the level of awareness of the impact of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs on the community in order to motivate positive social change." They believe that what we cannot accomplish alone, we can accomplish together, and that abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs is a critical problem in Beaver County which needs to be addressed. To that end, any and all concerned citizens of Beaver County are encouraged to participate in the Task Force. Meetings are hefd monthly, rotating among Beaver, Minersville and Milford. The next meeting will be May 25, at 6:30 P.M. in the Milford City Office. ay ar Hilery Bradshaw Utah Homecoming Queen Finalist Miss Hilery Sue Bradshaw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Bradshaw of Beaver has been selected finalist for Utah's Fourteenth Annual Homecoming Queen Selection to be held April 23 and 24, 1 994 at the Salt Lake City Marriott She is the Beaver High School Homecoming Queen. Utah's Homecoming Queen will receive a cash scholarship plus an expense paid trip to compete With queens from the other states for America's Homecoming Queen in July in California.
