Open Factory Salt Lake City.. .Keeping its natural gas rates as low as possible is a priority at Mountain Fuel Supply Co. because it is in the best interests of both the company and its customers. "We operate in a competitive energy marketplace," said Mountain Fuel spokesperson Louise Jacobscn. "Our customers can choose from several energy sources when deciding how to heat their homes and water, cook their food and dry their clothes. Many choose natural gas, at least in part, because it is an economical alternative.Maintaining this competitive edge is very important to Mountain Fuel's continuing success. "We strive to provide customers the lowest rates possible while ensuring reliable long-tersupplies," Jacobsen said. The Committee of Consumer Services recently filed testimony with t he Utah Public Service Commission (PSC) as part of Mountain Fuel's most recent rate case, which requested a $3.3 million decrease in Mountain Fuel's Utah natural gas rates. Hearings on this rate case arc scheduled to begin April 27. Mountain Fuel files two or filings eachyear. Such filings enable the company to adjust rates twice eacn vear t0 reflect changes in gas- supply costs, The committee issued a news release at the time its testimony was "pass-throug- filed, claiming Mountain Fuel could have lowered costs by the on more acquiring supplies "spot gas" market, a market where gas supplies may be available on a month-to-mont- basis. h This theory previously was evaluated by a task force on gas supply issues that was established by the Utah PSC and included representatives from the Utah and Wyoming PSC's, the Utah Division of Public Utilities, the Committee of Consumer Services and Mountain Fuel. The task force's interim report, dated Oct. 31, 1991, did not consider the committee's theory to be a viable alternative. In addition, Mountain Fuel has used extensive computer models to evaluate gas supply alternatives in cooperation wilh the PSC's review of the company's practices. Mountain Fuel concluded from tlie computer modeling process that the course of action suggested by the committee theory actually would result in higher gas costs to Mountain Fuel customers. . They are looking for employees to be 18 years of age or older who can be sewing machine operators (both men and women) or who can work in the office or in shipping. Starting pay is $4.50 an hour for a 90 clay probation period, after which wages will increase to $5.00 an hour and up. Fringe benefits include insurance, 8 paid holidays per year and a paid vacation after aycar of employment. If anyone is interested, applications are now available at the Job Service office in the Courthouse. Interviews will be conducted at a later date. Tritek is hoping to be in production before April and are planning to increase their production as fast as machines and people trained to operate them becomes available. According to Don Williams, Tritek President, the building is large enough to hold 80-9- 0 workers. With a starting crew of 30-5- 0 employees, this would bring an annual payroll of approximately $300,000.00 into litis area. Since Mrs. Janice Foster and Mrs. Melanie Osborn have been using the building to leach tumbling and dance classes, for the time being, they will remain there and they and Tritek will each use half of the building. Many thank you's go the Mayor and City Council for choosing to repair and up grade the old building. Apparently at one tunc some City people felt that the building should have been torn down instead of spending money to renovate and repair it. Having a good, spacious building available was one of tlie key attract ions in gettingTritck Corporation to locate here.
