In April the Beaver County Republican Party has been very active and busy during the last few months. In April F ! the Beaver County Party sponsored "An Evening With The Governor". This was a very successful activity. Governor Norman and Colleen Bangerter took time out from their busy schedule to visit Beaver County. The evening started out with Governor Bangerter meeting with local county officials at the county courthouse. The evening then moved to the Beaver High School Lunchroom. Governor and Mrs. Bangerter took the time to meet and shake hands with those in attendance. A delicious roast beef dinner was served, including roast beef, baked potatoes, green salads, jello salads, hot rolls, punch, cake v and ice cream. The program began with the song "I'm Proud To Be An American", " sung by Dr. Hugh and Margaret Howard. Colleen Bangerter spoke of her pride in representing Utah as she travels throughout the nation. She reported many people from other states are amazed at the amount of volunteer and community service that is done by Utahns. Governor Bangerter spoke of education in Utah, economic opportunities, and farm life he remembered growing up in rural Utah. The talk was well received. The Governor then answered questions. About 150 people were in attendance. Senator Kerry Peterson, Representative Haze Hun term Representative Jim Yardley' were there as well as many local leaders. Republican : IK: ! .v : ' Mama Sarty's Italian Kitchen Spaghetti, Ravioli, Manicotti, Cannelloni, and Pizza - all of these tasty Italian dishes are now available, made to order, right here in Beaver City. There is also a delicious meatball sandwich and a delightful "Grinder" (submarine) sandwich on the menu at Mama Sarty's. This new restaurant, decorated with an Italian flavor, is located on South Main Street next to Jack's Motel. The exterior roof make it and Mediterranean-til- e hard to believe that this same building was once a garage. This is the second time that Artys and Sonny Troyner have opened a business in Beaver. Their first venture, "Sarties Pizza", a teenagers canteen and gameroom, was in the same spot where the bakery now stands. That business was opened in 1974 and lasted only a short time. Ever since the Troyners have wanted to open another restaurant and now they have finally newly-stuccoe- d done it. Artys, the daughter of Hattie and Hartley Greenwood, was born in reCalifornia. The Greenwoods turned to Beaver in 1968 and Artys B.P.W. Extends Invitation of the year It's that again.. .and we would like to extend an invitation for those women who might be interested in joining our Beaver Business and Professional Women's Club. It is open to those women who are in the work force and would like to get more involved with our community, state and national levels. Through B.P.W. we hope to give the working women pew ideas, new opportunities and new chances for personal growth. Monthly meetings are tentatively planned for the 1st Monday of every month. Artys great grandfather was one of the early pioneers in Beaver. Sonny was born in Connecticutt and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Sonny and his mother, Bonnie, moved to Fillmore, Utah in 1969, where they opened a small cafe. Bonnie was married to the Mayor of Fillmore, Paul McBride when she died in 1979. Artys and Sonny were married on Father's Day, June 17th, 1973. This past Sunday, also Father's Day, marked their 17th Anniversary. The Troyners have three children-Tro15, Brecca, 13 and Sean, who will be 4 years old in July. Artys has been cooking professionally for 20 years and is for her delicious pizza. "Mama Sarty's pizza is excellent" says Paul Anderson. Marilyn, the councilmans wife, concurs, "the 438-283- 2 Williams (438-512- 8 (home). Baptist Church Sponsors V.B.S. The First Baptist Church of Beaver will be sponsoring their annual Vacation Bible School June 24th through June 29th at 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Governor Bangerter came to our county again and was the keynote speaker. He was followed by Jim Hansen, Dub Lawrence, Haze Hunter and Jim Yardley. The State Republican Chairman, Richard also spoke. Nominations for county offices were made: Zane Yardley and Brent Smith for Treasurer, Max Limb for Assessor, Leo G. Kanell for Attorney, Ross Marshall for Commissioner A and Gary Sullivan for Commissioner B. A vote was taken for the position of Treasurer. Zane Yardley received 75 percent of the vote and emerged as the Republican Candidate for Treasurer. Delegates to the State Convention were chosen. Those elected to attend were: Melissa Kanell, Karl Truman, Gary Sullivan, Florence Wood, Gilbert Yardley, Paul Thomas, and Linda Robinson. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served. State Convention The Utah State Republican Convention was held last Saturday, well-know- n delivery. Phone The Triathlon Welcome to the Utah Summer Games. The enclosed information should answer all your questions concerning this year's exhibition sport, The Triathlon. On June 23 at 8:00 a.m. it will kick off with the swim portion to be held at Minersville State Park, located 10.8 miles west of Beaver on Highway 21. It will be a triangle-shape- d swim starting and ending on the boat ramp. For those of you that have long sleeve wet suits, you may wear them if your shoulders for I.D. can be exposed as you exit the 16th at Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City. All of the Beaver County delegates were in June attendance representing our area. Jim Hansen came out of the convention as the Republican Candidate for Congressional District No. 1, with 84 percent of the delegate votes against Davis County Commissioner Dub Lawrence. The convention was well attended and a great spirit of involvement and interest in our state was felt. Bike .4 miles to Highway 21, 5.9 miles to Minersville, left turn onto Highway 130, then to the church on the right side of the road 42 miles from Minersville Reservoir. There will be a feed area at 17.5 miles. Cold water, Exceed, and bananas will be provided. If you wish, put your name on your water bottle and drop it off at the feed area and it will be available for pick up at the finish line. The run portion will be 7 miles with aid stations at 2,4 & 6 miles. Please plan on being in the start area for check-i- n and last minute instructions between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. We will start at 8:00 a.m. Reminders: 1. The Registration Office will be open until swim-to-bik- 10 Dear Beaver City Resident: The Beaver City Secondary Water System is presently under construction. The pond is being built and the distribution pipelines are being laid within Beaver City streets. The City Council has adopted an Ordinance regulating the Pressurized Irrigation System. The Ordinance is on file at the Beaver City Office, 60 West Center Street, Beaver, Utah 84713. It is mandatory under the Ordinance for all residents who are connected to the culinary water system to also be connected to the Pressurized Irrigation System. It is now necessary for Beaver City to begin collecting the hook-u- p fees and locating the service risers oil vour property line AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Location is necessary so that the construction crew can install the service risers at the same time the distribution system is installed. Please contact the Beaver City office at your earliest convenience to make arrangement for payment of your hook-ufees and location of the service riser. Following is a summary of the Beaver County aiimv Mwr-- Kanell-Chairma- p fees that will be assessed against your parcel of property. The torch run sponsored by Mountain Fuel Supply Company will proceed on a six day journey through Utah's cities and towns celebrating the achievements and spirit of amateur sports. There are seven days run with the torch culminating in our area on the 7th day Monday, June 25. The run started on Highway 20 to SUSC Centrum. Bear Valley Junction-wes- t on highway 20 to the frontage road on the west side of South on the frontage road to the rest stop to the north end of Paragonah, through Paragonah south to Parowan. Through Parowan to Summit. Cross to frontage road on west over side of South on frontage road towards Enoch and the junction of the frontage road and Midvalley Road. South on frontage road to KOA park at the north end of Cedar City. From KOA through Cedar City on Main Street to Center Street. From Main Street west on Center Street to 800 West. South on 800 West to Centrum. Distance from highway 20 to the Centrum is 59 miles. The torch run will culminate on June 25 at the opening ceremonies of the Utah Summer Games at Thunderbird Stadium U.S. Olympic athletes, lions, tigers, skydivers, trick horse riding and roping, and a literal three-rinsummer circus will kick off the fifth annual Utah Summer Games during opening ceremonies in Cedar City. The tradition of Utah Summer g Games Opening Ceremonies extravaganzas continues at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25, at Thunder-bir- d Stadium on the campus of Southern Utah State College. Comprised of girls from the age of 8 to 21, the group performs daring stunts on horseback, including one known as the "suicide drag," all performed at a fast gallop. The Cowboy Girls have performed all across the United States since their inception in 1979, including a last year at the Games sponsored performance Summer USA-USS- exhibition gymnastics Cedar City. A featuring trained "ten-cat-ac- t" lions and tigers from Las Vegas, and the juggling talents of Utahn Bill Gnadt, billed as "The Utah Chainsaw Juggler" in the famed Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, will be part of a three-rin- g circus extravaganza. Surprises are in store for the usual overflow audience at Thunderbird Stadium with a special tribute to the Utah National Guard. Opening ceremonies this year will also pay tribute to San Juan County, Cedar City--"Th- Festival City", and the e five inductees into the Utah Summer Games Hall of Honor. The newly crowned Miss Utah, the Utah Summer Games Precision Dance Team and the lighting of the new Summer Games torch at the base of the Grecian-styl- e Harris Athlete's Pavilion will also be a part of the festivities. A favorite over the years has been the lighting up of the southern Utah sky with one of the best fireworks extravaganzas viewed annually in the state.
