The purpose of Ducks Unlimited is to establish and maintain wetlands for all water fowl. This includes not only ducks but geese and swans and any bird that lives around a water habitat. Ducks Unlimited isn't an organization for raising game birds intended to be hunted. It's purpose is to preserve all water fowl for the enjoyment of present and future generations. Money from raised memberships, banquets, and other fund raisers from all over the United States, Canada, and New Mexico are then used anywhere along the flyways where it's needed. The flood in the Willard Bay area a few years ago caused major damage to waterfowl habitat and DU was right there to help recover this important Utah breeding ground. Committee members work hard bar-b-qu- nice fish available now. According to Hepworth fishing will only get better as time goes on., A good per- centage of the fish weigh between and two pounds. In 1977, a ', similar V chemical treatment program was implemented to eliminate undesirable fish like the Utah chub and the Utah sucker, with the resulting growth on the remaining rainbow trout being almost unbelievable., Anglers can expect the same growth pattern right now on the existing rainbows. The last recreation ' survey showed Otter Creek Reservoir to be the fourth most popular Utah water, having approximately 105,517 angler days of use a year. With a little luck,: Otter Creek Reservoir could be even better later this year, and for some years to come. , s jBt i I . These donations are then raffled off to those who attend the banquet. DU also holds an auction offering limited edition guns, pictures, decoys and specialty items that are created just for Ducks Unlimited. Auctioneer Joe Taylor from Cedar City will be with us again this year. So give your spouse a fun night out - and a great dinner - and come join us for the evening. Tickets are on sale now. Contact Chairman Ron Wunderlich or Treasurer in Milford Trudy Smith or Ron Forrest in Beaver. Other committee members with tickets are Kevin Anderson and Roy Young, both of Miiford. The 1990 DU committee would like to sincerely thank all who have donated either merchandise or money. No cash donation is used to purchase any item for either the raffle or auction. We'd also like to thank those people who could not attend the banquet but purchased the $20.00 membership to Ducks Unlimited. Along with the magazine you receive, you'll also have the satisfaction of knowing you did something terrific to save our waterfowl for future generations. Miners ville. In late February the DWR brought in another 75,000 rainbows. An additional 240,000 rainbows have been requested. Following a recent , gillnetting program to evaluate the success or failure of the winter trout stocking, fisheries manager Dale Hepworth happily reports that a lot of rainbows survived the winter stocking program and are growing rapidly. Although fishing for the large trout that Otter Creek is known for will not become a reality until later this year, the reservoir has some area businesses and via the mail. their annual fund raising banquet on Saturday, May 19th at the Beaver County Fairgrounds in shore.
