Projects may be working or- models or illustrations. All entrants will receive a contest and a certificate of participation. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners on each grade level. The Grand prize winners will also be invited to exhibit the winning project at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City during the comannual pany's shareholders meeting in May. Judging will be on a point system and include originality of idea, practicality of application, verbal explanation given by the student, and the quality of workmanship. This contest is held to encourage new ideas and creative thinking concerning electricity. The final deadline for accepting entry forms in our area is Wednesday, February 1, 1989. Judging of the projects will then be scheduled to accomodate the number of entrants. Lee; Councilmembers Va' Smith, Conrad Grimshaw, Paul Ai.derson, s. James Robinson, and Sam Also present were City Recorder Hal Lessing and City Hut-ching- Manager Gordon Baker. The passenger, Gary Nigbur, 13, suffered a cut on his head, Ryan Solberg, 17 months, had a mild concussion. Kim Solberg, 22, Daren Solberg, 21, and Derek Solberg, 21, were also passengers but were unhurt. Solberg was involved in a one vehicle accident. The accident 1500 feet west of the Grove, west of mile pot.t 9. The vehicle was totaled in the accident, and was investigated by Tropper Dene Kay. Mr. Solberg was traveling west 3 on coming down Bed ver Canyon. He lost control of his vehicle on the icy roads and went off the road on the left side, where he struck a small tree. After reading and review, Councilman Smith moved, Councilman Grimshaw seconded, the minutes be approved as read and written. Bills The City Recorder presented bills for approval. Bills were reviewed and approved for payment. Business License Application business license application for Rasmusson from Roger Rasmusson Quality Auto at 1450 North 300 West, was presented to the City Council for review. The apwas reviewed by the plication Building Inspector and Fire Chief with a note from the Fire Chief that a 10 lb. ABC Fire Extinguisher is required. After review, Councilman Anderson moved, Beaver City approve the business license of Rasmusson Quality Auto, attached hereto as Exhibit 286A, located at 1450 North 300 West, subject to installation of a 10 lb. ABC Fire Extinguisher in the office. All voted in favor of the motion. A business license application for a craft fair at the Opera House Civic Center was reviewed by the City Council. After review, all voted in favor of the motion. Snow Plowing at Airport A letter from Mr. Bert McCor-mac- k regarding snow plowing at the Airport was read to the City Council. The letter is attached hereto as Exhibit 286C. After review of the letter, it was the consensus of the City Council City Manager Baker write a letter to Mr. McCormack explaining the snow plowing at the airport, what Beaver City's policy presently is, and what it will be in the future. Also, it was the consensus of the City Council the Airport Manager be permitted to, and should, close the Airport when hazardous runway conditions exist. Uniform Building Code A letter from the State of Utah, Business of Department Regulations, attached hereto as Exhibit 286D, regarding Beaver City's request to amend Chapter 11, Section 1102(a) of the Uniform Building Code, was read to the City Council. After review, it was the consensus of the City Council the City Recorder present to the City Council at the next meeting, a copy of Beaver City's Zoning Ordinance as amended for Council review and the matter be placed on the next City Council agenda. The City Council recessed at this time until 7:30 p.m. Councilman Smith requested he he xHs?d to attend an imoortant school meeting. Councilman Smith was excused at this time. Enforcement of Parking Ms. Betty Miller, representing the Chamber of Commerce, met with the City Council and presented a letter, attached hereto as Exhibit 286E, requesting Beaver City enforce the parking limit, as per signed, on Main Street. City Manager Baker informed Ms. Miller that Beaver City has just completed installation of the new signs on Main Street, which clearly mark the parking limit and Beaver G.'y will begin enforcement parking immediately of the limit. Firehouse and Equipment Lease Councilman Grimshi w presented to the City Council a Fiehouse and Equipment Lease signed and approved by Beaver County and the Beaver County Special Service District No. 1. After review of the lease, all voted in favor, Beaver City authorize Mayor Lee and City Recorder Lessing to sign and accept the lease attiched hereto as Exhibit 286F. Safety Seminar City Manager Baker and Police Chief Cartwright attended a safety seminar in Richfield. Ci'y Manager Baker reported and stressed the importance of safety ani hazard awareness and instructed the City Council on numerous potential problems. It was the consensus of the City Council the City Recorder obtain sample liability release forms for City Council review. Water Improvement District Councilman Grimshaw presented to the City Council engineering data and maps prepared by Rowley Islie Associates. Mr. Grimshaw outlined the existing Grove water system and proposed improvements. After a complete review of the water system, Grimshaw informed the Beaver City Council that a decision is necessary so that the Water Improvement District, as now constituted, may proceed with the necessary grant applications and water system improvements. After a lengthy discussion, Councilman Grimshaw moved, Councilman Anderson seconded, Beaver City prepare a letter which will be written to the Grove Water Improvement District. Said letter to . One young Milforc man is incarcerated in the Beaver County Jail and a juvenile is in Juvenile Detention in Richfield on charges of burglary and theft. Fantasy In Frost CEDAR CITY-Sa- nta will visit Southern Utah State December 1 through 3 as the special guest at the college's "Fantasy in Frost" celebration. Children of all ages are invited to enjoy the festive spirit in the Great Hall with its elegantly decorated Christmas trees and country store with handmade gifts and freshly baked holiday treats. First Baptist Church of Beaver Holds Dedication Service Special dedication services will be held December 4th, as the First Baptist Church of Beaver, Utah, holds its first service in its new which will include an open house. The facility has an auditorium which can seat approximately one building at 220 East Center Street. Speakers will include Wally Higgins, (President of Northwest Baptist Missions), Milton Carr, and Wynn Terwilliger, (founding missionary pastors of the church), and Gene Absher, missionary builder with Carpenters for Christ. Cooper Abrams, pastor of the church since July, 1986, will lead the services. Services will begin at 10:00 A.M. and end at 2:00 P.M. after a luncheon and showing of a video taken during construction. Everyone is invited to attend. Special services are also planned for early 1989 There are three large Sunday School rooms, a nursery, and a fellowship hall with a kitchen. The building, which was begun on July 26th, of this year, has been completed in only one hundred and thirty-on- e days almost totally with hundred and twenty-fiv- e people. volunteer labor. Individuals and groups from six states, including groups from churches in North Carolina and Virginia have helped in the construction. Gene Absher, missionary builder from North Carolina with Carpenters for Christ, who moved to Beaver in July, has supervised the project and actually built most of the building. |
