Forensics By Karen Joseph On Friday and Saturday, March and 14, 1987, the Beaver High School Forensics team competed in state competition. They gave a 110 percent, closing out four of six events but still fell short. In 1A forensics state competition Rowland Halls took first with 84 points and Beaver placed a very close second with 81 points. There were seventeen schools that competed. We are very proud of this team who went from nothing to one of the best in just two short years. All year long they have competed against 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A schools, always placing near the top. Throughout the year they have brought home approximately 36 trophies. The entire team deserves to be commended, but the following individuals who participated at state deserve special recognition. Natalie Black and John Webster are the top debate team. At the state tournament they definitely proved it by winning six rounds and not losing one. Their last three rounds were exceptionally close but they managed to keep an edge on the other teams. I doubt their minds will ever be as greatly challenged as this again. Some judges said they were as good as college teams. 13 vi f,,.,, 11 Ken Wc My o Kevin Gibson-- . Ben Robinson and JuLaine Twit-che- ll also won two of four rounds. However, their fourth round was a close one between the second best team in the state. They are the newest debate team but have performed well during the year. Ben Robinson was our only freshman to compete at state and the team hopes to have him around for another three successful years. JuLaine Twitchell also did well in Oration. She was able to break into final rounds placing in the top six. She has been able to do this at every meet this year. Darrick Weldert took first in -Douglas Debate. He won all four of his rounds making him the top in the state. He also competed in Impromptu where unfortunately he was unable to break into finals but has been strong in this event all year. Tracy White placed second in Lincoln-DouglDebate. He has performed superbly throughout the entire year receiving top honors in this event. He also competed in Impromptu where he took a third place. However, he has taken firsts in the past. Pam Evans took third place in Lincoln-DouglDebate where she won three of four rounds. The one round she did lose was against one of the best in the state and it was a very close round. She has been a great help throughout the year always placing in the top. Von Christiansen captured first place in Impromptu. He has done this numerous times during the year. He has been our top competitor in this event. Lincoln- as as Notice! The team thanks him for everything. Scott Langford was the team's judge for the state tournament. Oh, you say you're not, but when the chips are down, you see a ladder and nine times out of ten, you wouldn't think of walking under it. Try spilling the salt. Over your left shoulder goes a pinch, just to make certain all will be well. Although lots of black cats are around, let one cross the street in front of you, now say you don't, at least, give a thought to what the outcome might be. And there are of lots minor superstitions: knocking on wood, crossing your fingers, saying "God Bless You" when someone sneezes, to name a few. Citizens have noticed some inconvenience as new water lines are installed and water outages while lines are being connected. This inconvenience has been caused by implementation of Beaver City's Master Plan that will provide a substantially improved water supply to Beaver City residents. On Wednesday, March 11, 1987, Conrad Grimshaw, Fire Chief, Beaver City and Fire Department personnel, and certified Beaver City fire engines. On the same day, Beaver City, Fire Department, and a representative from the Insurance Services Offices, tested Beaver City's fire hydrants for water flow.
