Scott, Jr. has announced his candidacy for Beaver County Sheriff on the Democratic ticket during the upcoming elections to be held this November. Born on August 15, 1946 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Burel has over 16 years of law enforcement experience. He started in law enforcement October 1, 1969 in Farmersville, California. Farmersville is a small town, (population 6000) in the San Juaquin Valley, an agricultural community. Experience there is comparable to Beaver County, in that there was a large portion of farming and most business was of the small town family type business. Law enforcement there was similar is some ways, but different in others. It was similar in that he dealt with and worked with the same people every day and also because it was a rural setting. He also had to live there. He i learned from the people he lived with and worked with that people are not perfect and do make mistakes. He also learned he had to live with these imperfections and not hide out in one . side of town and work in the other. Law enforcement was different in a lot of ways, in that part of the country. First, therewas and still is a Targe problem with drugs, thefts and armed robberies. It played a big role in the everyday duties of a police officer. It was not unusual to work a drug arrest, burglary or a robbery on any given shift and maybe all three on another. These are not major problems in Beaver County, but they do occur. Burel has been in Beaver County now over three years, under the Metro System and as Milford's Chief of Police for a period of almost six months. He realizes there are probably people that have not always agreed with him on how he has handled certain situations, but, he has always handled each problem with the best interests of everyone involved in mind. Most everyone that knows Burel, will tell you that for whatever else they may think of him, he is fair with people. As for experience, Burel spent 3 years as a patrolman, 4 years as a patrol sergeant and 6 years as a patrol and administrative Lieutenant in the city of Farmersville. During this time he spent over a year as interim Chief of Police and was the City Manager for a period. He has been a Law Enforcement Officer in . Beaver County for over three years and has grown very fond of all the people in the county. He holds certificates in almost every phase of law enforcement. P.O.S.T.
