Beaver topped out at a high of 65 degrees on January 29th followed by lows as low as 3 below the following week. Southern Utah has had an extremely mild winter, although the ski areas had enough snow for some great skiing. Local citizens are grateful for the savings on fuel. And Flu Each year type I, insulin dependent diabetes strikes between 7,000-8,00- 0 young people throughout the United States, warns the American Diabetes Association, Utah Affilitate. "Most new cases of this disease develop in children from 5 to 16 years of age, and occur during the flu season," said Glen Steenblik, MSW. "It is especially important to note that during this time of year, the symptoms may be confused with those of flu or gastroenteritis by physicians or hospital emergency personnel," he added. According to the American Diabetes Association, an estimated 4,000 or more children and young adults can be expected to develop diabetes diabethis winter. tes is the most prevalent chronic childhood disease in the United States. Unusual thirst, frequent unination, nausea and rapid weight loss are the major symptoms of this form of the disease, which afflicts some one million American children and adults. "The American Diabetes Association urges that people exhibiting these symptoms should be checked by a qualified physician," emphasized Mr. Steenblik. If diabetes is not detected and treated early, it can result in diabetic coma and death. Mr. Steenblik noted that by alerting the public about the warning signs of diabetes and the need for prompt medical treatment when these symptoms occur, the lives of thousands of children and young adults who develop diabetes each winter and spring can be saved. The American Diabetes Association also warns that people who have diabetes are at greater risk of complications resulting from influenza or pneumonia and urges these individuals to be vaccinated against these diseases. Vaccination against both pneumonia and influenza can now be given with one shot. He was born in Beaver, Utah, June 3, 1918 to Henry Lafey and Annie Olevia Edwards Bradshaw. He had fourteen brothers and sisters. He married Verle Williams, March 12, 1941 in Greenville. They have six children: Joe Bradshaw, Bonnie Webb, Patsy Webb, Marilyn Baldwin (my mom) Janet Douglas and Suzanne Mortensen. Some of the friends my grandpa had when he was younger was Boyd Twitchell, LaVarGale, Eldred Smith, Bob Brown and Vivian Edwards. He liked to play "Run Sheep Run" and they also liked to dam up the water in the ditches and go swimming. His most frightening experience was when he was about six years old and he and two of his brothers, Mose and Ray were herding sheep. They had about 300 head of sheep. One day it was raining really hard with a lot of thunder and lightning. They were standing by their horse. Lightning struck close by the horse and knocked the horse down and killed two sheep.
