I feel there are some good statements and information in the letter. It is well written but there are also some allegations and in- -, formation which may or may not be true. I am printing the letter and if there is truth in the statements concerning 11 year olds being placed on an "all star team" and in coaches being more concerned with winning than promoting the values of skills development, good sportsmanship and self esteem, I hope the persons involved in Little League, coaches, parents, and players will respond with as much courtesy and concern as I believe the letter was written with. Usually we do not print letters or commentaries if we don't know who wrote them. However, in this instance, perhaps printing this letter will make others aware of concerns about Little League and give those who have been given what I believe is truly intended as "constructive criticism" a chance to respond. Rebecca Jean Thomas was one old July 16, 1985. She is the daughter of Steve (B. C. Satellite) and Ramie Thomas of Beaver. She celebrated with friends, the Cooney family and NAPA store owner, Steve Christensen and family. She is the first granddaughter of Ray and Erma Bisel and James and Betty Thomas. Letter to The Editor Thanks for sending the Press to us. We do enjoy reading about the goings on in Beaver. There are many new families living there now; most of them are related to the families we used to know. We especially enjoy Esta's Chit Chat. Sometimes her column has news of our loved ones living in Beaver. Thanks, Esta. When Louis Lessing writes, "On Our Way" we enjoy that news. Right now Dutch is enjoying "Beaver: The First 75 Years" serial feature. Please tell Veloy and K. Ashworth and Marilyn and Paul Anderson to come to Colorado and visit us again soon. They don't know how happy we were to see them. Allene Gentry reason being, "We want a winning team." Is winning the main objective of Little League? What makes these fathers so sure some of the other 12 year olds couldn't have out performed their boys? They deserved the opportunity to try. We appreciate the time and effort the coaches put forth; however, it is a well known fact that many of these fathers "groom" their sons from their first year, to be pitchers. Are they building their boy's ego or their own? When many of these boys .... qutgrow Little League many of the fathers resign. , Surely there could be an improvement in the selection process of All Stars. A group of impartial people could help make the decision. The 12 year old boys who were not selected feel there was a great injustice. They also lost a good deal of respect for their fine coaches who should be setting examples. There has seldom been more than two 11 year olds selected. These boys could have taken their turn next year. Why do coaches and parents let politics enter into Little League? Let's make Little League more meaningful. To develop skills, promote good sportsmanship, build self esteem, and to develop lasting relationships and to have fun. Little League has played an important role in our community for many years. Young boys work hard for four years to achieve a long awaited goal of All Stars. Some 12 year olds who are excellent players were deprived of this honor this year. A group of coaches gathered to determine who would make up the All Star team. When the votes were in many of the coaches' children and relatives who were 11 year olds were placed on the team. Their t Paula Bradshaw went with the F.H.A. to Salt Lake for a week with other girls and leaders. It was the college.
