Roundup is a product that kills most plants when sprayed on leaves. It is an excellent grass killer and works well on quack grass. It does not effect the soil and a garden can be planted a week after spraying. A soil sterilant such as Aattrex works well if you want nothing to grow in an area. There are precautions in using these products. This material moves slowly into the soil. Fall is the recommended time to apply a soil sterilant so that the winter moisture will move it into the soil. There is danger of applying in spring or summer because heavy rainstorms or irrigation water can wash it onto other areas and cause problems. It should not be applied where it will reach the roots of trees and shrubs. If it gets to the roots it will kill the trees or shrubs. For further information contact your county agent.
