Show THE BEAVER PRESS - MARCH 4, 1982 PAGE 4 Beavers Defeat Milford, Piute In First Round The Beaver Beaver's basketball team did an outstanding job Friday and Saturday defeating Milford 53 to 68 and Piute 73 to 77. It may seem by the score of the Milford game that Beaver has it easy. That, unfortunately, is not so. Beaver had to really keep the ball moving to beat the Tigers. The first two quarters were so close 14 to 12 and 29 to 26 at the half that everyone thought it would be the same in the second half. Unfortunately, the Milford Tigers could not respond to the Beavers fast breaks and steals in the third quarter. Beaver added 21 points to Milford's 12 points. That 57 scoring in the third quarter hurt the Tigers so bad that they were unable to make up the twelve point spread. Beaver only scored 18 more points to Milford's 15. When you let a team rebound 26 times and steal the ball from you 20 times, you are asking to lose. Saturday, Beaver went up against Piute High School. This was the best game of the Tournament so far. The game was so close during the whole game that no one dared leave their seat for fear of missing any of the action. To begin with, Piute had heighth advantage with 6 players 6' 1" or better as starters. Beaver could only put 3 starters 6' 0" or better and were only able to draw on two more 6' players for substitution. But that did not stop Beaver from controlling the boards with 31 rebounds, with the likes of 5' 9" Chris Brannvall with 4, 5' 11" Thane Marshall 4 rebounds, 5' 9" Donnie Roberts with 4. 5' 10" Richard Paice who was sub a few times to come away with 5 rebounds and 4 points in the game, 6' 3" Ken Stoker and 6' 0" Steve Hutchings both grabbed 4 rebounds, followed by teammate Robbie Eyre with 5. Piute and Beaver were . pretty even with the turnovers, 13 to Piute .and 14 for Beaver. Two highlights were Steve Hutchings half court shot to put Beaver ahead at the half The other was Robbie Eyre who only played 12 minutes total and was able to score 11 points and grab 5 rebounds. Robbie got 3 fouls early in the game and was pulled out until the second 42-4- half. When he got his fourth foul. Coach Albrecht tried to call a time out, but before that materialized, Robbie completed his fifth and watched the rest of the game from the bench. a .v xwiw !UieUi: Play Valley Friday; State March "Jos 10-1- 3 With these two wins, Beaver is granted a trip to the Slate Finals, March 10, 13 12 and at Dixie 11, So that off their with College. minds, of making it to State, they can start concentrating on their next opponents. That will be Valley who comes to Region with a 10-- 0 record. The Beaver's have the best chance of anyone to beat Valley, with their depth of players, fast breaks, and outside shooters. Valley must make Beaver play Valley's game. But I can't see that happening. If you missed last weekend's Round Robin Basketball Tournament at don't miss it this weekend. If you can not get off work in time Friday to see Beaver vs Valley at 1:30 p.m., then dial your radio to KSUB AM to listen to all of the round robin action Friday and Saturday. 4 'i k Jxvfr .
