Mrs. Alva Rhodes was hostess to the Garland camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers at her home on Friday afternoon. Thirty members and the following guests were present: Mrs. Fanny Capener, Ellen Rhodes, Sophia Larson, Ruth Hoi man, Jane Isaacson. Hazel Riser, Lavona Grover, Donna Shaffer, Ardis Adams, Rhea Rhodes and Nelva Hansen. Temple, where she was married to Louis Briggs, of Syracuse. Miss Cook taught school at Fielding one year. Her husband is a returned missionary and former student of the U. S. A. C. as was also Mrs. Briggs. Mrs. Briggs leaves soon for the service. He expects his bride to accompany him to his training field and to be near as long as he is in the United States. Many out of town residents came here to decorate graves of loved ones on Tuesday. Also local people visited graves of departed family members elsewhere. Mrs. Donna Kennedy, of California, is a house guest of her sister, Mrs. Alva Rhodes. They, with Mrs. William B. Potter and daughter, Sandra, visited at Harper Ward on Memorial day. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Hansen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Hansen and family attended the reunion of the W. W. Steed family, held Sunday at the T. Joseph Steed home in Syracuse. On Decoration Day members of the Hansen family were at the n family reunion held eunually at Brigham City. The Zions boys and girls, with the assistance of Mrs. Lena Jensen, gave a surprise party at the Jensen home for their teacher, Mrs. Ida Miller, Thursday afternoon. The Trail Builder boys accompanied by their Guardians, Mrs. Eva Petersen, Trekers, and Mrs. Irene Shuman, Guides, held a weiner roast Friday evening. A good time was had by all. Mrs. James Jensen and daughters, Evelyn and Mrs. Martha Taylor, of Brigham, visited in Penrose Monday. They were accompanied here by Larry Spires of Ogden, who plans to spend the summer at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orson Jensen and family.
