Navy school at Athens, Ga. for three months of intensive physical toughening and instruction in advanced ground school subjects. Upon successful completion of the course, he will be transferred to a Naval air station to begin progressive flight training preparatory to joining a combat unit. Hawkins graduated from Bear River high school in 1938 and enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard in 1940. He attended Naval Flight Preparatory school at Louisiana Pre-Flig- ht stuff? Lenzy Petersen, who was injured in North Africa some time ago, that he is now back in active service in England. Bob Bair returned home Satur- day for a short furlough. He is stationed at Farragut, Idaho, at the Naval Air Base. Bob is the son of MrsEva Bair of Howell. Ensign Ivan F. Richards, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Richards, of Garland, has had the opportunity of seeing several states in his travels since enlisting in the Navy last fall. His transfers have taken him from Ithaca, New York, where he studied at Cornell University, to Norfolk, Virginia, and from there to Davisville in Rhode, Island, then down to Gulfport, Mississippi. From there he went to California and then was given a ten day furlough which he spent at home. Ensign Richards is now located somewhere in the Alaskan territory with the Engineers Corps. He was with the Bureau of Reclamation at Denver, before joing the Navy. Edith Fuller, Tremonton, received a letter this week from her son, Sergeant Darrell Fuller, who is a gunner on an English ship. The letter was dated April 30th and came by Sergeant Fuller tells his mother of a short leave he recently enjoyed when he was taken to the home of some wealthy people for three days. While visiting there he was able to fish, hunt or swim right on the estate. He hoped to be able to visit his folks at home soon. Mrs. il. William Reed Harris, familiary as Bill, has already been promoted to a Private first class and has been in the service only three months. Pfc. Harris is stationed at Camp Claiborne in Louisiana. known Pvt. Alten B. Earl P. .Fronk has been selected for basic college training after passing a special competitive and a reviewing examination board of officers. Pvt. Fronk has left the West Coast Ordinance Training Center at Santa Anita for further examinations at Pasadena Jr. College at Pasadena, California. This is part of the army specialized training program which is attempting to pick men who have demonstrated unusual ability out of the ranks and give them additional training. Pvt. Fronk is a son of J. H. Fronk. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Beckstead left Saturday for Provo, where they will spend the next three " Sb-- y North Africa. Lt.
