The first trial was held near Memphis, Term, in the year 1874 and since then the sport has increased in popularity to the extent that it can be classed as one of the National Sports. The object of the field trial, of course, is to determine on a competi tive basis which of the contending dogs nearest approaches the ideal hunting dog. The dogs are judged on the following: nose, pace and style, manner in which the breaking dog breaks away to go hunting), pointing style and staunchness, backing (pointing on sight of another dog pointing or honoring the other dog's point) and roading (manner in which the dog approaches game). Contrary to the popular belief the field trial dog is not a trick performer but a good shooting dog. The stake run at this trial are as follows: All age, in which all dogs my compete; gun dog, in which all dogsm ay compete; derby, in which dogs whelped on or after January of the preceeding year, or are two years old may compete; and puppy stakes, in which dogs a year old or less may compete. The mechanics of the trial are very simple. At a time set by the club, the names of the dogs to be run in stake are written on separate slips of paper and thrown into a hat, and drawn one at a time. The first and second dogs whose namees are drawn, are paired to run together and are called a "brace." The third and fourth dogs, whose names are drawn, form the second brace, and so on un- till all the names in the hat have been drawn. The length of time in which the dogs are to be run is known as the "heat" and may be from twen ty minutes to three hours as is de cided upon by the club. It is during this time that the judges follow the handlers and their dogs observing the performance. Tremonton was selected as the site for the trials for the reasons that the terrain 3s the most suitable and there are birds in abundance. It is hoped that in the near future that Tremonton will be the site of the ionally with the melted butter. Serve with brown gravy. Recipes for Parlor Fun The newest recipe for parlor fun is Contack, an exciting new game played with 36 triangular pieces each side with a different color and number. The object of the game is to match colors and numbers and to make scoring totals a streamlined development of domino technique that's easy to learn. Another sure way to end the social ice breaking problem is Quick Wit, a hilarious quiz game that's played with cards and guarantees new and different questions every round. d e iiiniin Intermountain Pheasant Championship trials. If this hope is realized it will be of considerable benefit to the town, as there will be increased following of the trials and will re suit that Tremonton will get a good deal of free publicity and patronage g Association The Utah wishes to thank the people of Tre 1940 YOU WILL ENJOY THE FOOD D DRINK m I COORS AND BECKERS BEER a S I OTTO'S CAFE & TAP ROOM 1 1 m. Mr. Hogenson. who has been judg--' ing crop displays at county fairs throughout the state, also suggests that uniform containers be used to the appearance of the exhibit. There were approximately 150,000 trees planted last year and it is ex y nurseries at pected the the Utah State Agricultural College will have that many, if not more, ready for planting next spring. To assist farmers in establishing woodlots on their farms the Agricultural Conservation program provides a soil building practice which allows payment of $7.50 per acre of land on which 300 trees or more are planted. One featuring clothes for the younger girl and the other showing styles and materials for advanced clothing club members. Home dress and apron, school dress, best dress, and slip for the younger girl showed attractive but simple styles, while the wardrobe for the cider Miss included sport clothes, school dress, best dress, summer afternoon dress, party frock and slip. People who viewed the exhibit showed a keen interest in construction finishes and types of fabrics, reports Miss Shipley. Spun rayons in plaids and strips were used for the school dresses. Gay cotton prints which can be laundered for the home dress and apron, cotton crash of linen-lik- e appearance, dotted swiss, and rayon crepe were popular materials for summer dresses. Novelty cotton pique was used for evening wear. Each garment was accompanied by an attractive photograph of large size, showing the dress being worn by the young lady for whom it was selected and fitted. Miss Shipley says the department of agriculture workers at Washington have spent a great deal of time and thought in planning and shopping for this exhibit so that it would represent the highest standards to be sought, by club girls of the nation, The exhibit was first shown in Davis county on the County Achievement program held in the Davis High School , Wednesday, October 4; then In CaltJ Lake county SI the federal building Salt Lake City, Thursday, October 6? and finished at the courthouse and state extension office in Logan, Cache county, Saturday, October 7. 4-- H Agronomist Shows Uncle Jim Says H Fernr Shipley, assistant state fTF' monton who made their sojourn in der AAA provisions are eastern red their city very pleasant and particul cedar, green ash, Siberian elm, black arly to trie land owners over whose honey locust, Russian olive, fields the dogs were run. and Siberian pea tree. Arranging all products of the same variety together would offer fair visitors a chance to make comparisons. Artistic arrangements featuring uniforimty and equal--' ity will improve these annual shows a great deal, asserts Mr. Hogenson. ..
