Farmers will receive a payment for planting or soil- - building crops on acres formerly devoted to crops. The payments will vary according to the productivity of the soil and the kind of crop replaced. This payment will be based on productivity in each county and will average approximately $10 an acre for the nation. In addition, it ia planned to make a smaller payment for each acre in crops in 1936, or where a practice is carried out The larg er payment will be limited to 15 per acre cent of the base age for most crops. Exceptions to this limit include sugar beets, flax, cotton, and tobacco. The smaller pay ment will not exceed $1 an acre for and each acre in crops; on the farm! Mr, Rich was graduated from the local institution in 1925 and from the University . of Minnesota in 1929 in dairy produc tion. From 1925 to 1928 he was agricultural agent in Wasatch county and upon his return following his advanced study in Minnesota, Mr. Rich was appointed agent for Utah county. He-was born in Paris, Idaho and served in the 145th Division during the world war. Dr. Arvil Stark of Payson, a graduate of the U. S. A. C. and Iowa Agricultural College at Ames, Iowa,, was appointed extension hortteulturist Dr. Stark, until his appointment was assistant horticulturist at the State College of New Mexico. Last year he supervised a detailed study of fruit trees in Utah. Another addition to the staff was the appontment of Lloyd Hunsaker Smith-Hugteacher at Beaver, as county agent for Piute. Mr.- Hunsaker graduated from the Utah State Agricultural College in 1935.: Shifts in the field included:' the transfer of S. R. Boswell from Sevier county to be agricultural agent in Utah county to replace Mr. Rich; the transfer of Lew Mar Price from Beaver county to become agent for Sevier; of C. A. Hymas from Piute to Tooele county to fill a vacancy left by Bion Tolman who has accepted aXS position with the United States de-- "? partment of agriculture; the shift of Golden L. Stoker from assistant agent for Salt Lake county to agent for Beaver county. Mr. Stoker's position will be filled by John J. Barnard,' Utah State Agricultural College graduate s' in 1933, former teach er in Fillmore. These appointments will become effective in the immediate future.
