In class a Studebaker Dictator Six won an outstanding first place with a score of 50.9, figured on a per fon mile basis which, expressed in the average motorist's language, means 24.27 miles per gallon of gasoline. The nearest competitor scored only 46.11 points on a per ton mile basis, with the remaining cars in this event scoring 45.10 and 44.47 respectively. Cars entered in this price classification were as follows: Studebaker, Nash (400) Six, uiasmoDiie &ix, rontiac Eight. 4-- day-to-d- ay r' I "'"f J EL P. O The closeness of the scoring is evidenced by the fact that the Studebaker Dictator, in finishing third in the Grand Sweepstakes, used but 1.3 gallons more gasoline for the 352 miles than did the first prize winner, both first and second prize winners in this event being cars which cost more than the Dictator. Of the thirtv cars entered in the Sweepstakes event only six, includ- -' ing three very small four cylinder cars, used less gasoline than the Dic tator. The Dictator took no oil and no water at any time during the event. Of all cars listing $875 and up' aeiiverea price, only one car used less gasoline (1.3 gallons for the 352 miles) than the Dictator and that car weighs less than the Dictator and sells at a higher price. The Studebaker President Eight,' the third heaviest car in the event, finished fifth in the Grand Sweepstakes on a ton mile basis against cars of all sizes and prices, thus showing a better record than twenty-fou- r of the thirty cars entered. The President likewise used no oil and no water. idea in mind, a victory.
