Show Bon Elder County Fanr and Elodeo SeptemHtsff 3 - 4 - 5, 1931 BEAR RIVER VALLEY LEAD: TREMONTON, UTAH, THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 1931 VOLUME SIX Jack Wynn Has Narrow SHERIFF TELLS Escape in Auto Accident ADMISSION IN MEETING OF FAIR DIRECTORS Jack Wynn, Blacksmith of this city COMPLETEPLANS Rodeo Committee Gets JJFamous Long Horned c Steers for Rodeo Everyone has their attention focused upon the next big event to take place in Box Elder County, that of the Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo, which will be held September 3rd, 4th, and 5th. At a meeting of the board of directors, held Tuesday night, plans were completed with respect to finance and advertising and the details of handling the three days Fair and ' Rodeo. It was decided at the meeting to sell the season tickets at $2.00 each for the rodeo and 75c for the Fair. Another advantage given the patrons will be that those who pay admission to the fair can go into the rodeo grounds from the fair grounds for 75c, the 25c paid for admission to the fair grounds applying on the rodeo ticket and those who have paid admission to the rodeo grounds will be permitted to go into the fair grounds on the same ticket, that is they will go from rodeo grounds to fair grounds free. This is a great saving to the patrons and will result in greater patronage to both events at a considerate saving to the public. The rodeo committee, consisting of Ed. 'Holmgren, as chairman, with Dr. Luke and L. C. Christensen, returned last week from the Buckskin Mountains where they obtained the famous long horned steers. That these steers will be the sensation of the show is vouched for by Ed and in commenting upon them told of the great truck that went south for a load of them for the big Black Hawk show, at Payson, and while transporting them they became so wild that they climbed on each others back, leaped from the truck and ran to the mountains to their old haunts. Ed gives an interesting ac- -' count of their trip. In speaking of the manner in which these steers are caught he says a cow boy sits on the fender of the ford and after the steers nave been run out into the open it re quires an automobile to chase them down and are lassoed by the cowboy and are tied to a tree or log and left over night in order to tame them down Tefore they can be loaded. Ed says that while on the trip Doc. Luke promised to take him to some fishing and after climbing the mountains to the supposed lake they found the water all dried up and the fish were out on the hills grasing with the cattle and -the alfalfa that was taken from Tere for bait ran short, with the result that they didn't catch very many fish. From reports of the trip, these men in search of the steers must have had a gay time and spent a lot of time and effort in order to get the best that the country produces for bull dogging purposes and the committee vouches that those who see them in action will get their money's worth. This committee also reports that there will be more famous riders on hand than were here last year, when all records were taken with attendance of these nationally known cowboys. Nearly all will return and bring many of their friends of equal ability. We are to see, they say, some of the greatest men in action of bronc riding and bulldogging that has ever indulged in this dangerous sport.. With every department of the fair and rodeo working overtime, determined to stage the greatest show of all time, the Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo, of this year, will take on an array of splendor of riders and rodeo stock, such as has never graced the grounds before. A hir added attraction simed ud bv :he board will be two bie wrestling C.ipatches between Hy Sharman and Ira Dern with suitable opponents for each. Three boxing matches. The main six round event will be between Del Baxter and Battling Lamroux. The two four round fighters will be announced tt later. The public is urged to secure their season tickets early and attend the three days of this famous fair and rodeo for the same price that has been paid for two days in previous years. Registration at U. of U. To Commence Registration Sept 24 of freshman students at the University of Utah for the au-tu- m quarter will take place Thursday, September 24, and former students and those transfering from other colleges will register Monday. According to Jack he was driving behind a car in which some young people were riding and just as he was going to pass them after he had sounded his horn and was speeding up the car ahead turned abruptly in to the Carter home. Wynn applied his brakes and swung out to miss the car ahead but struck the front wheel throwing his car out of control which rolled over and lit in the barrow pit upside down completely demolished and crushed down so that the occupants of the other car and others thought his life was crushed out. But just as the car broke out in flames Jack found a little hole and came crawling out assuring the onlookers that he was quite all right. While the car, a big locomobile 8, was rendered worthless, all Jack received was a cut on the right hand and a few bruises on the body, none of which were serious.
