MR. t Beaver's music department under the direction of Gordon Johnson presented State FFA Judging Eleven young men from Beaver attended the State FFA judging contest in Logan last Wednesday, May 7. In the area of crops, the team of Monte Edwards, Ryan Marshall, Tony Jessup and Travis Bradshaw placed fifth, the livestock team consisting of Rod Eyre, Kelly Smith. Steve Roberts and Mark Yardley placed eighth in their division, and the team of Rick Carter, Todd Bradshaw and Ross Brad-shaplaced seventh in the Thursday May inary Graduation. The Dixie Sun - v--- y ; ',1 Ul ' Honor High Achievers Beaver County School District honored it's highest achievers at an awards banquet at The Black Steer, Monday, May twelfth at 6:00 p.m. Superintendent Haslem congratulated the young people of Beaver County on their high achievement and voiced the appreciation of teachers and administraton for the quality of work submitted by them. He asked two of the award winning students to what would they credit being in the ranks of quality performers. They stated setting goals and hard were their working answers. Haslem assured them this criteria would probably mean success in earning a living and being happy in later life. Mr. Long, principal of Minersville School proudly presented his high achievers, Tresa Albrerht, 5th grade and Wendy Carter, 7th grade. Mr. Petty, Milford High principal presented Lisa Lemon, 7th grade, Shawn Dalton, 9th grade, Kelly Miller and 10th grade Lisa Banks and Bill Morris as his highest achievers. Academic high achiever was Wayne Low. Vocational high achievers were Norma Thompson and Gina Banks. Twelfth grade academic high achiever was Debbie Brink-maTop vocational senior was Pat Duffy. Girls from 3rd grade through 6th are allowed to play. The first game was played on Friday the lOih of May. The teams were The Beaver Dodgers whose coach is Bonnie Ruesch and the "Superstars" whose coach is Susan Black. The game was played at 9:00 on the Eelrnap baseball diamond. Scholarship recipients include Curtis Stucki, Hurricane, in accounting, and Janeen Severson. Richfield, in both shorthand and typewriting. Last year Rkhleld High School students won top honors in shorthand and accounting, with the typewriting scholarship begin won by a student from North Sanpete High School says Larry A. Olsen, chairman of SUSC's annual business competition. Olsen said thai 550 junior school snidents-1- 50 more fian last year were on campus to compete in typewriting 1 and 2, shorthand 1 and 2, accounting, alphabetic tiling, spelling relay and business machines math. "These students represented some 30 Utih and Nevada schools and competed in over 675 tests," in Olsen says. "Winners each category were selected for both large and small school divisions." Principal Al Marshall presented awards to the following Beaver High School high achievers: Seventh grade awards went to Brett Christiansen, Nathan joeseph and Susan Roberts. 3fh 'grade award winners were Cheryl Gale and Allison Low. Ninth graders who won ..wards were Nancy Bradshaw and Matthe Webster. Tenth graders who won awards were Richard Christiansen and Kenneth Stoker. The academic awards in eleventh grade went to Gyle Gale, Lee Ann Marshall and Tracy Marshall. Vocational awards .in eleventh grade went to Kristen Wood, Tarni Holling-shea- d and Leif Condie. The senior level academic awards went to Kathy Stoker, Catherine Gale and Melora Webster. Four years high achievement winners were Melora Webster and Kathy Stoker. Senior Vocational awards went to Kelly Smith and Steve Roberts. Top Vocational award was won by Steve Roberts. Mrs. Mary Raines and Mr. Hollingshead were honored for eight and twenty six years of teaching. Mrs. Hollingshead attended with her husband. Beaver Boys Excel at Souffle - Cedar City Beaver High School students Mark Mes- senger and David Nielson captured sweepstakes honors in souffle baking competition held recently as part of Southern Utah State College's Vocational Day activ- ities. "Producing a light, airy souffle is a supreme test of any cook's abilities," says Ada Carpenter, chairwoman of the SUSC family life department. "These boys not only produced a beautiful cheese souffle, but did well enough to win sweepstakes honors." Other men's teams have competed in SUSC's annual cooking contest but none have taken th purple sw eep- stakes ribbon, Carpenfr said. She notes that another of the teams in competition this year, a red ribbon winner from Milford, was boy's team. As part of the homemaking activities, some 150 students from 11 schools visited SUSC to compete in the souffle bakins contest, the preschool activities contest, to model clothing they'd constructed during the year and to attend several homemaking demonstrations. Students from Piute, Milford, Escalante, Ced?r Jr. and Sr. High. Valley, Beaver, Enterprise, Millard. Bryce Valley, and for the first time from Juab High School, were on campus for activities. Blue ribbon winners in the souffle baking contest included Debbie Brinkman and Lisa Nelson, Milford; Kelly Rae Warren and JSayne Andrews, Juab; and Pamela Nielson and Wendy James, Piute. Red riubons were awarded to teams from Cedar, Bryce Valley and Milford. In the presentation of activities for the preschool laboratory, K.m Brunson, Millard High Schoo1, won a superior rating, f irst place winners, same contest, were Janiece Barton and Eva Crosby, Valley High School. "We appreciate the interest shown in homemakir.g competition this year," Mrs. Carpenter said. "There was some very beautiful clothing modeled, which represented many hours tf diligent work, along with some unique and interesting preschool activities, and of course the souffle baking." Demonstrations on string quilting, presented by Virginia Holyoak 8nd Jeri Anderson, and on gingham embroidery, presented by Elaine Averett and Ruby home-makin- Bradshaw, rounded g out homemaking activities. In addition, all visiting teachers enjoyed luncheon in the SUSC management home, prepared by students in the SUSC management class. |
