Show ' THE BEAVER PRESS - SEPTEMBER 13, 1979 Letter... Open (Continued from page!) , ' t ft w w p V ' V, V 1 Maureen Smith To Federal EPA regulations are pushing for an end to the city dump and open burning there. Compliance with that law could be stalled about another five years. Should a new city council continue to stall or get the new sanitary land fill system with its daily covering and weekly pick-uservice? This could possibly be put into service for a four to five dollar monthly service fee for each residence. City Council meetings are long and many difficult decisions have to be made at 1 and 2 o'clock in the morning under fatigue conditions. Maybe a new City Council would want to consider changing to day time instead of evening meetings. If this change is made, perhaps additional pay should be considered to off-spay from work missed. The Mayor is now paid $115.00 a month or $175.00 a month if he chooses to be insured through Beaver City. A councilman is paid $85.00 monthly or $145.00 if he chooses to be insured by Beaver City. Employee pay will need to be considered carefully by the next council. Pay standards should be high enough to attract and hold the kind of people that Beaver City needs to work for us and keep us abreast of things in a modern world. I have enjoyed my term on the council and a chance to give service to Beaver City, a place that I love. Again I hope there will be many candidates who are willing to serve Beaver City as a whole, and not just a special interest, who will run for these important positions in Nov. Dan F. First a suitable site would have to be found for the landfill. Projected cost for a disposal service company to collect garbage and care for it at the landfill was $450 per month to Beaver' City. Discussion of how billing would be done included payment based on taxation. Representatives1 at the meeting felt this would not be a fair way to charge, however, they also stressed ina-- , bility to collect by other methods might becomea problem. Due to so many problems needing solving in conjunction with the beginning of this type of service it was decided to look into solving some of the preliminarty ones before stepping into a contract for disposal.
