By Esta mid-Jul- 3!bs. 29 25 lb. .........3.89 It being Sunday, we good Mormons couldn't go fishing, so had to wait until the ' next morning. Mike's uncle from Manti brought the boat down and was to spend the next morning fishing with us. It seened we had just laid our waary heads down to nap a bit when Mike sounded reveille. It was still too dark for the fish to see but we roused our weary bodies and headed for the boat habor.I had two coats on and was still colder than a well diggers ankles. We began trolling deep and when it finally got light enough for the fish to see, finally began catching a few. We were really surprised when we caught three mack. They were barely keepers, just 15 inches long which is the minimum. That just shows you what kind of luck have. The day before, some dude from Salina latched onto a 35 pound Mack, That evening, Mike's uncle had gone back to Manti, so Mike and I took Lana and baby out in the boat for a little boat ride and fishing. It was nearly dark and we were on the far side of the lake debating on whether or not to stop the motor and do a little fly fishing. Mike said "No I don't want to take a chance on restarting the motor with the baby in here". Well, just at that monent the motor went on "vacation and conked out. No amount of coaxing would revive it. All the boats had gone off the lake and we had one paddle. We twisted around like a wounded duck with a broken wing We decided we would have to float till morning when a last desperate effort on the crank revived the ailing motor and we headed full speed to the nearest port holding our breath for fear it would stop again. Mike is a "die hard" fisherman. The next morning at five when I would much rather have been sleeping, we were again out on the cold lake. We caught seven nice ones which would help us survive while in the Henries, then headed south. After a summer of drought the heavens opened up, and form Fish Lake to Capitol Reef it was a deluge. We felt much the same as Noah must have felt when the flood hit his raft. At Capitol Reef Park it was dry-aa bone. We went to the visitors center and watched a film which told all about the park. We found that it got it's name frorfl the bee that hive looking formations resembled the capitol dome and from the deep canyons which the early prospectors called "reefs." There are dozens of beautiful places to see if you will take time to hike into them. Last year we hiked to Hickman Arch which was awe inspiring and much larger than we thought it would be. (Don't know if it was named after Sam or not.) The apricot trees at the park were loaded with over ripe fruit and was so thick on the ground you couldn't walk around the trees. Still the rangers were watching them like they were pure gold, and were afraid that you might take some without paying. Anyway, we picked a bucket full and I made quit a dent in them between there and Hanksville. You know what the old saying says, "better to bust a gut than waste good food." The scenery between the patk and Hanksville is unique and interesting with someting dittcr-en- t at every turn.
