Osborn, Chairman of the Lions Race Meet Committee, presented of a check in the amount $2,294.00 to Mayor Robert Christiansen, Chairman of the On Beaver Valley Hospital Board, to be used to purchase the furniture for a room in the new hospital Rick Jarvis Named to SUSC Honor Roll David R. Jarvis. Beaver, has been named the Outstanding Student for the Engineering 1977-7school year at Southern Utah State College. The SL'SC sophomore earned the prestigious title for his academic performance in the S.U.S.C. engineering has been program which designed to prepare engineering majors for transfer to a college or tiniversiiy offering advanced engineering degrees. The award was made based on the recommendations of faculty members in the SUSC Physical Sciences and Engineering Department. Jarvis was selected as the top student from the 55 men and women currently enrolled in the pre engineering program at Southern Utah State. He was awarded a Civil Handbook and Engineering honored at an Engineering Banquet held recently in Cedar two-yea- r City in conjunction with National Engineering Week activities. "Rkk exemplifies the type of student we like to have enrolled in the program. He is an outstanding person as well as student," Richard N. Kimball, SUSC Associate Professor of Engineering, said. Jarvis plans to attend SUSC for one more year then to transfer to the of Utah to his civil engineering University complete degree. The 1976 Beaver High addition. To fully equip a room requires 2 beds, 2 innerspring mattresses, 2 overbed tables, 2 bedside chests, 2 side rails and 2 chairs. Total cost for this equipment is $2. 294.00. The Beaver City Council meeting was held March 7, 1978. The franchise for cable TV was discussed. Coimdtean Joseph suggested the Company survey the town and if the people want it, ok - if not, no deal. Talking to that the Company proposal, representative said they must have a minimum of 500 hook-upPresently the city sells about 450 licenses plus 100 in county. Unless the franchise is given, the company could not deduct expense of survey from taxes. The cutter would cost about $10,000 with tractor. Council indicated need for other than rear mounted cutter. to approve d licenses. Councilman Bradshaw proposed new utility connection fee ordinance $500 for water, $200 for power in city, and $1,500 for water out of city. The revenues from 50 connections will pay for a new well at water tank. Councilman Joseph presented proposed rental agreement to allow development of pipe wareSouth at yard housing interchange. Robert Merryweaiher met with the Board and reported that he would be entering the hospital soon for an operation and would not be able to work for at least 6 weeks. In checking the records, Mr. Merryweaiher has approximately 6 weeks time coming which includes vacation time, sick leave and overtime. No pay will be allowed for any time taken over 6 weeks. A letter was received from Dr. Trafton of the Southwester Health District stating that if Beaver County would like to participate in the district, they would have to submit a letter requesting admittance and fill out the official forms. No action Was taken at this time and the matter was tabled until after the district meeting on April 5, 1978. Meanwhile the 6 County AOG will be contacted and costs obtained from them to provide sanitarian services to Beaver Codunty. The Board agreed to accept $100.00 from Harlan Thomas as payment for a used culbert he bought from the county 2 or 3 vears ago. The original bill was $150.00. The Board approved a letter written by Dr. Symond and addressed to the Utah State Department of Health, stating that the Beaver County Health Department would prefer not to enter into a contract agreement for Immunization services. The service requested to be done by the State is being done by the County Health Department now and these is no reason to change. Bills on file were examined and ordered paid. Present business being conludcd, this meeting was adiourned. Beaver Lions Sponsor Four R's Concert S p.m. 1S7S Valley Hospital Beaver Medical Clinic for services rendered to Isabcll Kelsey. The the bill and Board reviewed determined that Mrs. Kelsey is not an indigent and that the County would not pay any of the bill at this time., The bill will be returned to the hospital and clinic. Representatives from V.T.N., O'Brein Resources, Amax Exploration and Thermal Power Company met with the Board and gave a presentation on the proposed development in the Roosevelt Hot Springs Area. Masie by "Love Revival" The Four R's, a male quartet of Roland Hadlcy, composed Ronald Schultz, Richard Penrod, and Roger Arnold, will perform in Beaver on April 7, 1978, sponsored by the Beaver Lions Club. The concert w ill be one of the fund raising activities the Beaver Club will sponsor to pay for their share of the Utah Lions Mobile Clinical Van. The Van will provide, free of charge, eye and ear tests, blood pressure and diabetes checks. A training seminar will be conducted March 11, lOS in Beaver for District representatives in preparation for the April 4ih visit of the Van. Lion's Club Furnishes Hospital Room Richard Garrett met with the Board and discussed a federal grant application and alternatives for funding for Mental Health services for the next 9 years. The matter will be discussed again after the next mental health the Board. It was moved by Commissioner Roberts, seconded by Commissioner Johnson and passed that the group health insurance coverage be changed from Blue Cross-BluShield to Equitable Insurance Company as of April 1, 1978. Beaver County will pay for those individuals taking single coverage and Vi of the cost for those taking the family coverage. The new coverage has Maternity benefits, a dental plan and includes a 5000.00 life insurance and policy on the employee $1,000.00 on each dependant. The life insurance with Ideal National that the county participates in now will be dropped. The fence law was again discussed and the Board has received comments in favor of the change and resisting any change. The County Attorney will request an attorney generals opinion on the law. Osborn. "If the work continues at this rate for another week or so, there won't be, any to burn worth anything," said Mr. Osborn in making his report to the club at their Tuesday meeting. The first three stables on the West are to be raised to make block room for the new structure. The two stables on the East and the one on the North will not be touched at this time. Anyone wanting some of the lumber from the buildings being razed should contact Mr. Osborn or Sam Johnson for permission and instructions. There is no charge. |
