Committee members unable to attend were Vern French, Chloe Bishop and Genicl Yardley. Sponsors of the project are the State Board of Education, Pioneer Craft House and the Utah League of Senior Artcrafters. Artists are invited to submit original works inspired by Utah's cultural traditions, history, heritage, symbols (the beehive, the Sego Lily, the Seagull) or scenery; or, alternatively, to make replicas of Pioneer artifacts or ornamental objects of significance and high artistic value. The deadline is November 30, 1976, and entries will be judged by a committee to be named by Ruth Utah State Draper, Director, Division of Fine Arts. The sponsors hope to make the Heritage Arts Awards an annual event, featuring one or more art and craft categories each year; and to display the outstanding objects at the State Fair and in regional exhibitions. A catalog of "Heritage Arts" will be published and distributed widely, and cop copies of the objects will be sold to the profit of their creators. Entries this year will be confined to objects made of any material and by any techniques provided they can be produced in molds. "The handcrafts have not achieved in Utah the distinction they deserve." says Charles B. Stubbs, Specialist. Art Education, who represents the State Board of Education in the project, "and this innovative gives project accomplished artists, professional or amateur, an opportunity to added gain by recognition creating or reproducing significant objects which tell, through ait. the Utah story."
