Much 22, 1973 Utah Writers Set Workshop Concer Committee Meets Messer, 1973 Cancer Crusade Chairman, outlined plans for the April fund drive at a meeting held In the Belknap School Monday, March 19th. The committee enjoyed seeing the posters and display on the harmful effects of tobbacco put up by Val Sm'.th's 5th grade Ann class. Tentative plans were made to be held in for a Byke-a-ththe summer with Val 5mith as Chairman. Other members of the committee In attendance to consider these and other matters regarding education and service were chairman Edla Terry, Rita Jes-su- p, What is Selling and How to Write It" will be the general theme for a Writer's Workshop Saturday, March 31 at the Utah State Institute of Fine Arts, 603 East South Temple, Salt Lake Qty. All Utah authors are invited to attend this day-loevent, sponsored by the League of Utah Writers, under direction of the ng writing will deliver the keynote address. Garlington, originally from New Mexico and currently a Professor of English at the University of Utah and Editor for "Western Humanities Review" a position he has held since 1962, will conduct a workshop "The Inside of Fiction." Author of many published stories In periodicals, and most recently in "Esquire" magazine, Dr, Garlington attended Princeton, Columbia, University of Hawaii and received his Doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1953. He also spent a year In Mairid, Spain as a Fulbrlght lecturer. At 1 pjn. Mr. Drn Ralnger, assistant general manager of KCPX T.V. will transport writers for a trip "Inside T.V. Drama," A New Jersey native . and formsr newspaper reporter, Mr. Ralnger fell in love with the west while serving with the armed forces. During what was to be a brief stop-ov- er in Salt Lake Qty after World War n, (en route a job opportunity with M.G.M. studios In California,) he accepted one of four positions offered him. He began his assignment with KCPX Radio, and went on to become Program Manager at the T.V. studio, one of the positions he now holds. He has written plays, musicals, T.V. scripts and poetry, and comes well qualified to give practical and colorful Information In the expanding field.
