BEAVER HIGH NEWS Beaver High School finished 5th out of 11 teams that qualified for state ';vith a total of 343. Moab High School won the State Championship with a total of 329. Individual scores of the Beaver team were: Senior Evan Vickers 77, Senior Garth Bohn 77, Junior Robert Wright 89 and Junior Blair Osborn a 99. The season results of this years golf team were: 3rd in league play out of six teams, won the B.Y.U. Invitational, and took 5th at State. The two Seniors of this years golf team both averaged in the mid 70's for all matches. Out of nine matches we competed in, they were medalist six out of the nine matches. . Welcome and Introduction of those on the stand was done by James D. Moyle, Chairman of the Board of Parks and Recreation. He said that the improvement program which included construction of 29 camper units, a sanitary dump station, fenced trailer and boat parking area and the pad for the park Ranger's trailer house had cost the state $155,000 dollars. Blackburn and Gower Construction Co. of Cedar City were contractors for the work. The money to pay for the Improvements coming from user fees and from boating gasoline taxes. Speakers at the ceremony were LeRoy Johnson of the Parks and Recreation Board, George R. Jefferson, Chairman of the Beaver County Commission, Hyrum Lee, past County Commissioner and presently a State Representative; Thorpe Waddingham, State Senator from Delta and long time resident of Minersville. Dedicatory prayer was given by Heber Gurr. Including the value of the land which was given to the Parks Commission and is listed as worth $20,000, total improvements at the park now have a value of $211,417.77. The results of the State Track was Garth Draper as 1st in the high hurdles, with a time of 15.2 sec. and a 3rd in the low hurdles with a time of 20.2 sec. Lynn Strong finished 3rd in the mile with a fine time of 4.34. Beaver scored 14 points with only 2 participants. The high school finished fourth at the meet. ' Lynn Anderson and GailGrim-sha- w represented Beaver High School at State in Tennis this past week. They lost to Juab 10-- 8 and 4. They played the longest match at state, but finally lost In the end. Their record was 3 wins and no loses in league play, one win and one loss at region and they lost their only match at state. Robert also attended Boys State. Connie F. Carter to Gain Nurses Cap Connie F. Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McKay Farrer and wife of Mr. Bill Carter, will graduate June 2, 1972 from the Holy Cross School of Nursing. Connie has been attending nursing school for three years on a scholarship from Beaver Valley Hospital. Connie will be a registered nurse at Primary Children's Hospital beginning June 5th. She and her husband, Bill, are living in Salt Lake where he is attending U of U. Joyride Brings Trouble for 16-Ye- Kj At approximately 5:15 a.m. May 17, 1972, Lynn Mclnelly was called to investigate an accident 12 miles North of Be aver on Old Boy ar J vV & SUSC Students Gain Scholarships Academic scholarships have been awarded 76 Utah high school students for the 1972-7- 3 school year at Southern Utah State Co- The accident was reported by a truck driver who saw the wrecked car in a wash on the West side of the freeway. Officer Mclnelly meet the truck driver at the telephone booth where he took the driver of the automobile to the hospital for treatment. On arriving at the accident scene Trooper Mclnelly found that the car had left the highway and traveled approximately 250 feet along the side of the road where It crossed a depression and flew through the air some 31 feet then conUnued another 151 feet to a point where it ran into the steep side of adraw and came to a rest. On Investigation it was found that the car was reported stolen from Goshen. It contained a tape recorder which had been stolen from the residence next door to where the car had been taken from. The truck driver said he had been looking for the car as it had passed him shortly before and had run off the road at that time. He thought the driver must be intoxicated or asleep and had been watching, otherwise it Is doubtful he would have seen it as it was almost hidden in the wash. The sixteen year old driver suffered possible internal injuries and has been charged for the thefts and as a run-a- w ay. llege. John Q. Cannon, SUSC Scholarship Chairman, said that the scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors for outstanding academic performances in their respective schools. Scholarship winners from Bea- ver County are: Lori Henderson, Beaver; Doris Minersville, Hollingshead, and JoAnn Price, Milford. Cedar City Hosts Scout O-Ra- Pinewood Beaver County was well represented for the District Pine-woa Derby at the Scout-O-Raheld Saturday, in May 20th Cedar City. Greg Myers took Cub Derby Giampion, Scott Roberts took second place and Kelly Mayor of Milford took third. These boys competed against 5 districts. More than 55 cars were entered. Each boy received abigbeauti-f- ul red, white and blue stripped ribbon.
