Perhaps the most important the impression given by c;ui3; i3 the personality it eventually conveys to spectators ar.d parMcipants alike. To look on these sprawling acres of plush, green grass, tres and babbling brook as a living entity, is not too far ftlch'd. After all, ships at sea and planes in tha air are warded humaa qualities, usually feminine, to reflect the pecular and intimate feelings cf the men who man them. Surely no one is more justified in accocrding personality traits to a course than a tournament participant., Bujt lacking one at this time, I chose to fill the void, as one who has kecn embraced by her (the course) in rare and rejected by her during her more obstinate -'"O'Js. Any golfer of any consequence will tell you a course must, have a personality, otherwise it isn't a course at all, just a green expanse with hofcs scattered hither and yon. She is a woman, through and through. She likes to bs treated by the men In a firm, but gentle, way. Attempts at sweeping her off her feet can, and frequently are, disastrous. Folly lies that way. It Is exem plified by hitting boldly down 7 fairway where a slightly errant shot or one that splits thi middle for that matter, can find the opening to the green blocked by either the trees bordering the stables or rail surrounding the track (or worse, in the track itself). mo-m''-- ts Continued next week.
