By Utah Foundation year. Limits on enrollments, fur ther increases in tuition, and more efficient utilization of existing classroom space are among the alternatives facing Utah colleges in the effort to solve their rapidly-increasin- g financial problems, according to a research report issued by Utah Foundation this week. Other alternatives explored in the Foundation report include increased operating efficiencies at the institutions and in other state operations, and providing more state funds through higher taxes or increased borrowing. Recent decisions to hold up substantial amonts of scheduled construction were noted in the report, but it was pointed out that long-terdelay in building would likely create backlogs of unfilled needs which would add to future financial problems in the institutions. Student charges have been raised substantially at all of Utah's public higher instituschool tions since the 1964-6- 5 year, the Foundation reported, fees are still but considerably below regional and national levels, although resident tuitions are now relatively high for the Mountain States area. Utah's Governor recently proposed that tuition be made sufficiently high to cover at least costs 80 of the of educating students from outside Utah. (Present tuitions cover an estiof mated 60 costs at the universities) An other possibility noted in the report would be to make it that mandatory fees charged any student be not less than those charged by the state university of the student's home state. 5 Temp with Magic Moisture Minder Possibilities for increasing .the utilization of existing class room space by scheduling afternoon, evening, and Saturday classes are presented in the Foundation report, which noted that the State Building 3 Temp 5 Cycle Board found that substantially more students could be accomo dated in existing facilities at all of the public institutions by better class scheduling. Attention is also being turned to the possibility of increasing the effective use of existing schedulspace by year-roun- d ing, on either a or system. Faculty salaries at Utah's public institutions appear to 1(1 be competitive with those at comparable institutions in the States area but Mountain somewhat below national averLay-Aw- ay ages, the Foundation reported. colfor qualified Competition lege teachers is increasing across the nation as larger enrollments engulf college campuses and the competition is expected to grow keener as time goes on. et SPARERIBS NOW SACRAMENT 1 m S229 MORTON BEAVER THIRD WARD SAVE UP TO $1,459.63 CERTI FRESH FESTIVAL SOUTH MAIN CULLEN'S MOBILE SERVICE FIRST PRESIDENCY, VOL.
