Show J'uvoia-al Microfilm Com. '41 Pierpont Ave. SIX', Utah 84101 -- HKhbS TIME By George Last Sunday hundreds of local residents took the opor-tunit- y and visited our new Beaver Valley Hospital. They met the staff and went through the building which' was opened for business on Wednesday morning. I suppose the story of the Beaver Valley Hospital really began sometime around 1860, just about the time the original settlers of this area decided they were going to stay. They must have gone to work about that time to try to obtain the medical facilities to fulfill their needs. The actual story of the Beaver Valley Hospital of this page, however, began about twenty-fiv- e years ago with formation of a Beaver Hospital Committee. This committee was made up of Aird Merkley, A. Carlos Murdock, Allen Reynolds, Wal lace D. Yardley, and Mark Woolsey. With cooperation and assistance from civic groups such as the BPW and others they held a banquet and raised about $2500 to be used for a hospital for this area. A bond election was held and passed by the voters to raise the funds for construction of a city hospital. About that time a new city administration took over and they decided against the plan. The original group, with a few deletions and some additions, kept on working and, in 1961, gained new life when the state Legislature passed the Service Area Act. Under that Act, petitions were passed and the two Beaver County Service Areas were formed, with that part of the county east of Minersville being Service Area No. 1 and that part of the county to the west of the line being Service area No. 2.
