Barlow, parents of Mrs. Chase Murdock, are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary Saturday in Salt Lake City. Many relatives and friends are planning to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Ennis Hoopes are vacationing in Idaho and While California this week. there they will visit their children and other relatives. By Mildred Yardley Guests at the home of Pres. and Mrs. Wallace D. Yardley on Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Croft and their daughter Julia of Idaho Falls. The Yard-ley- s took them over to the beautiful Asay Creek ranch in Garfield County. Mrs. Yardley served a delicious steak dinner then they drove to Bryce Canyon to visit the Yardley's daughter Jeannie. They had been to Provo to pick up their daughter Jeanette, who has been attending summer school at the BYU. Mr. and Mrs. J. Byron Puffer and three children visited for five days in Beaver with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Puffer, and other relatives last week. They were on their way to their new home in Boulder, Colorado, where Byron has been transferred to the new IBM plant there. He has worked for the company for nine On Thursday evening, years. forty-fiv- e members of the Jasper Puffer family gathered at the park in Minersville for a to enjoy a baked ham dinner, to visit and just to have fun playing baseball, basketball and running races. All but fourteen of this family were present. The first time this many had been together for several years. Vendon Myers, of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Puffer, was severly burned recently while fixing his car. It was a third-degre- e burn and he was required to spend a week or more in the Milford Hospital. He is on crutches and it will be some time before he will be able to continue his work. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rhenstrom and two boys of Temple City, California are spending a week vacation visiting Mrs. Mollie Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Don Harris and family, and Mrs. Euzell Thomas. They are enjoying the fishing and visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Don Gale of Le Grande, Oregon and three child ren are spending 2 weeks visiting Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Powell and Mrs. Theda Gale. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Pierce and their 2 children have returned for the school year. Mr. Pierce is Seminary Instructor and will teach in the Seminary during the coming year. Word has been received of the death of Carlyle Tanner, one time resident of Beaver. Mr. Tanner has made his home in Springdale, Utah for the past few years. He leaves a widow and two children; Mrs. Dale Schofield, of Oregon and Gray Tanner and several grandchildren. He was a son of Jacob and Jennie Tanner, pioneer residents of Beaver. Mr. and Mrs. Abe Gillies of Salt Lake visited over the weekend with their father, Glen Gillies, and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Poul-so- n and family visited in Richfield Sunday for the 80th birthday of his mother, Mrs. Poul-soer son-in-la- w n. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Blackwell visited Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith made a trip to Panguitch and Bryce Canyon Sunday. Seven year old Tammy Funk, daughter of Roma Funk, of Salt Lake, flew to Cedar City where she was met by her grandmother, Mrs. Retta Parkinson and her aunt, Merle Leasing. She remarked after her arrival "it wasn't much fun, traveling on a plane." Tammy plans a short visit with her grandmother before returning to her home in Salt Lake. Mrs. Irene Fletcher of Logan spent the week visiting at the home of her daughter Sara and family. Mr. and Mrs. DcVere Miner and 2 children were also guests of the Yardleys. They all returned to their homes in Logan Saturday. and children A large crowd attended the Farewell Testimonial Sunday evening for Sam Kerksiek in conjunction with the Third Ward Sacrament Services. The meeting was conducted by Roy Yardley of the Bishopric and the music was under the direction of Ireta Baker and Carol Kesler, The program included remarks by Harry Kerksiek, Gerald E. Finch, Sam'3 parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter - K. Kerksiek, and a response by Sam and remarks by Bishop Bradshaw and President Wallace D. Yardley. Musical numbers were given by John Kerksiek and a ladies trio composed of Judy Gunderson, Sue Ann Wixam and Kathy Hansen. Elder Kerksiek will spend some time at BYU studying before he leaves for the mission field and his assignment in W. Germany. Among the many friends and relatives in attendance wiere: Mr. and Mrs. Hal Peterson and family of Glenwood, Gerald Finch of Las Vegas, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kerksiek and family of Salt Lake, Mrs. Wallac3 Johnson and family of Orem, Mr and Mrs. Melvin O. Allen of Salt Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hansen and family of Salt Lake Mr. and Mrs. Evelyn Murry, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Paice, Mt. Emmons, Mr. Hans Beckman and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Beckman of Salt Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Murray of Blue Bell and Pauline Prady of Mt. Emmons. Mr. and Mrs. Alma Lowe and family spent a couple of days in Salt Lake recently. One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the movie "The Greatest Story Ever Told". The girls enjoyed a visit to the Zoo and Liberty Park. Mrs. Dora McMullin and daughter Doreen accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Scott McKnight and their family to Yellowstone Park and Jackson Hole, Wyo. last week. Mrs. McKnight is Dora's daughter Mary Jo. They live in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Lydia Nelson of Beverly Hills and BUI Adkins, and son David, of San Jose, Calif, were guests of their sister, Mrs. Karla Tattersall, recently. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin White and family of Provo spent the week-en- d at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gunn. Jane Ann Kindred, another daughter, also is visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Hunt left for Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Cora Lindsay word of the death Blackner, a old-tim- e received of Ray L. and brother-in-la- resident of Beaver. He and his family lived in Lyman, Wyoming for many years. Only during the last few years have they made their home in Salt Lake. His body will be taken to Lyman for burial. He leaves a widow, Bessie Blacker, and eight sons and daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Johnson and son Mike visited their parents over the week end, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Briggs. The Johnsons make their home in Las Vegas and enjoyed a trip into the canyons while here. Mr. Clive Anderson of the Covina Beach Ward of the LDS Church accompanied a group of Deacons of the Ward on an outing into the Beaver Mountains. They fished at Puffers Lake also at the Minersville Reservoir. They stayed overnight at the Third Ward Church before returning to their homes in California. They report having had a wonderful tip. Mr. Joseph Murdock of Mil-for- d visited friends in Beaver Monday. Mr. Gerald Finch of Las Vegas and 2 children were Beaver visitors Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Peterson and boys visited Sunday in Bea ver. They enjoyed the mountains while here. They were once employed at the Fish Hatchery several years. They are now living in Glenwood taking care of the hatcher there. e Mr. Cerald Finch, Seminary Instructor here, and his two children visited Jiere Sunday. Mr. Finch and family now live in Las Vegas. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace M. Cole of Chula Vista, California visited the Milford and Beaver areas Monday. They own farming property near Milford and came to subscribe to the local paper. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Fother-inghareturned home from a k vacation in Richland, Washington, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gary Pickard and son. They report a wonderful trip. David Pickard visited with his brother and family in Washington for a short vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Barry Blackburn and family visited with PARTY Mr. and Mrs. Jess Cartwright and Brent entertained with a hot dinner for Sam and John Kerksiek on Monday evening at their home prior to them leaving for LDS missions In Germany and New Zealand. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Joseph entertained the Study Club at their home Sunday evening. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Dee Stapley, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Heslington, Bernice Thomp son and her brother, Clark Robinson, from California who has been visiting the Josephs. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Anderson, of Bountiful, Utah, with their daughters, Darlene and Bonnie, Bruce, Bonnie's husband, and their tiny daughter stopped on their way home from southern California, to visit with long-tim- e friends George and Dorothy Rich and family. The Modern Mothers Club met at the home of Maud Christ iansen Friday, August 20th, at 2 p.m. Mrs. Belle White of Cedar City was hostess with Presi dent Maud in charge of the meeting. It was a trip to Richfield for Mrs. Lucy Osborn Sunday. She accompanied the Brooks Poul-so- n family to participate in Brooks' mother's 80th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. S. Albert Smith returned home after spending a few days in Ogden on business Mr. and Mrs. Nick Dotson were visiting from Salt Lake with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Firmage and family also the Dotson fam ily in Minersville. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Farns-wort- h and son spent the weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Joseph. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Grimshaw motored to Richfield Saturday to enjoy the Sevier County Fair and see their granddaughter, Jane Grimshaw, receive the blue ribbon for the articles she entered They visited at the home of Helen Grimshaw and family. Mrs. Calvin Powell and her daughters Criston and Julie of visited California Pasadena, with the Chase Murdock family and left Sunday to be in attendance at the Golden Wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Barlow. Lucille Murdock also left Tuesday to join the group. The rest of the family will leave Friday. The Harvey Whites had their son Elmo White and family as their guests the past week. Ronald Robinson of North Carolina is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Yardley this week. Mr. Robinson was a friend of their son Patrick while he was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Mrs. Bertha Dalton and Paul left for their home in Mesa, Arizona after visiting for several weeks with friends and relatives in Beaver and Minersville. Mr. and Mrs. Pershing Erick-so- n and Jack left for an extended trip into California to visit their daughter, Maurine Brown at Colinga. SECOND WARD SACRAMENT The meeting was conducted by Counselor Rex Carter with the music under the direction of Nell Smith and Kate Joseph. Jerry Messinger and Steven Farrer were graduated from the Primary. These two boys and Calvin Nowers were sustained to be ordained Deacons in the Aaronic Priesthood. Maurine Gale was sustained as a new Counselor to Ila Messinger in the Primary Presidency. The program was presented by the Alfred Horton family. Eight granddaughters sang "I Thank Thee Dear Father." They were accompanied by Norma Horton. Norma also played a piano solo. Dick and George Horton were the speakers and Marvin and Alfred Horton offered the prayers. BURT FAMILY REUNION Sixty-fiv- e of descendants William and Nancy Nowers Burt gathered at Woods Ranch In Cedar Canyon for their annual reunion Saturday, August 21st. Three of the original family were able to attend Labon Burt, Yates Burt and Susan Walker. Jim Morgan was chairman of the event with Louise Harris Stubbs as also Marie Orton. Many visited Cedar Breaks and other points of interest before returning home. Minersville The descendants of James W. and Pearl Burk Wood held a Family Reunion Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Beaver County Stock Show Grounds. The following were in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Jameson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jameson and Karma, Mr. and Mrs Floyd Wood and Vance, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Jameson, Mr. and Mrs. Sherwin Wood of Minersville; Mr. and Mrs. Royal Wood and Laura of Henderson, Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. LaVar Jan, Debbie and Jay of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Rex Limb, Bruce, Val, Susie, Garth and Russell of Beaver; Mrs. Lorraine Jameson and Scott of Las Vegas; Mrs. Don Charles, Lisa and Scott of Henderson, Nevada Mr. and Mrs. Allen Jameson of Salt Lake and, as invited guests, Miss Gail Warner of Spanish Fork, Utah and Bernard Jameson. Some of the family members were unable to by present. Mrs. Lillian McKnight left Tuesday for Sandy, Utah, where she will live and teach school this year in the Jordan District. The children of Hayward Car- ter will honor the couple at an Open House from 2 untill 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 28th, in observance of their 65th wedding anniversary. They have nine living sons and daughters: Mrs. Lester Roberts, Oregon; Mrs. Othello Smith Whit'tier, Calift; Mrs. Chesfter Cresick, Arcadia, Calif.; Mrs. Joseph Pearson, Las Vegas; Mrs. Nettie Myers, Frank, Sheral and Max Carter of Minersville and Rex Carter of Beaver. Forty-tw- o grandchildren, 89 great grandchildren and two great -great - grandchildren. There are two sets of five generations and six sets of twins in the family. Gaye Pryor and Laurie Griffiths sang "My Grandmothers Old Fashioned Garden. Mrs. Ilene Gray read the history of her grandmother Lamb. Ada Edwards and Ileen Jame son sang "Whispering Hope." Mrs. Daisy Gillins gave a talk on "The Pioneer Trek". Miss Lois Evans has returned home after visiting her brother Wayne and family in Denver, Colorado. The descendants of George H. and Emma Walker Eyre held a reunion Saturday at Ponderosa -- Park. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mathews end Tom attended the Farewell Testimonial at Beaver Sunday for Elder Sam Kerksiek. Rosemary Solomon is home after visiting with relatives at Salt Lake.
