"Easily," says Max Hess, Jr., of Allentown, Pa. "Just bring Paree to the farm." That's exactly what Hess is doing with his caravan of fashions taking the latest fashions to the farms of and New Jersey. Pennsylvania With the increased cost of transportation and the limited time which the farmer and his family have for shopping in town, this service means not only a saving in time, but money as well. Aside from these aspects the interest that a fashion caravan of this kind brings to a community is tremendous. When the summer edition of the Hess caravan made a stop recently at the farm of Horace Kirby of Macungic, Pa., a large part of the rural population turned out to see the event. What they saw will not be forgotten soon. Out of one of the station wagons piled five attractive mannequins, and disappeared into one of the costume the trailers wherein changes were made. A runway, from the trailer was soon set up as well as a microphone, over which Mr. Hess talked about fashion highlights, as the models paraded up and down the runway. Presenting a complete summer wardrobe from bathing suits and play clothes to summer dresses and evening gowns, Mr. and Mrs, Farmer and their f r niily were given a complete preview of .. hion for the summer. Although no attempt was made on the tour to sell anything to the public, Hess believes it's good psychology for men to see how their wives spend money for clothes. He believes the tours create good will for his store and many of the clothes shown will finally find their way into the homes of the people who have seen them. And so now the department store goes to the customer on the farm. And most merchandisers believe that Hess has a wonderful Idea. It may be that the idea will spread into the west where instances made shopping trips to town few and far between for the average farmer. Mrs. Kirby liked the fashion show. "We certainly appreciate this service," she said. "It's a grand way to shop and I'm sure that Mr. Kirby, who seldom gets to town, got just as much kick out of it as I did. Do you know he wants me to get that lilac coat which the pretty red headed model wore? Of course, I don't know if it will look as well on me but he thins it will, and that's enough for me." Mr. Kirby wasn't the only man - ! If it's delicious to eat as well as a saving on the budget, then there's more than ample reason for trying a new recipe. Seafood, cooked properly, is one of the most important of food budget aids. Besides being plentiful, it's available in fresh, frozen or canned form, so you're certain to find several varieties at the store at all times. You'll be glad at the opportu nity of having interesting meals at budgetary prices with the use of seafood. At the same time, the family will be delighted to get away from menus that are "the same old thing." Curried Shrimp on Rice is a good way to start off on seafoods because the flavor is intriguing, and the nourishing eggs and milk with shrimp makes this a good main dish, rich in protein: Shrimp Curry Au Gratln (Serves 6) cup butter ? cup finely diced onion ?4 cop diced celery 6 tablespoons flour 14 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon curry powder teaspoon ginger 1 teaspoon sugar 3 cups milk, scalded 1 pounds shrimp, cooked and cleaned 3 tablespoons lemon Juice 1 cup grated cheese 4 cups boiled rice Melt butter, add onions and celery and cook until tender, while stirring. When you want to make just a small investment in the room that's now drab and colorless, and expend only a short amount of time and energy, then the smartest possible solution is to change the cover on the dressing table, or to install one where now you have only an empty space. Much more than a decorative asset, the dressing table can give you storage space for some of the smaller items now cluttering a crowded chest of drawers. If you have a seat for the table as well as a mirror, you may be certain that it will be of great value for cosmetic sessions while the chest mirror is in use by the man of the house. There should be harmony even though the dressing table is a big item of interest, and frequently is gay and colorful.
