Try as one may ta find one, the Republican minority In procongress does not have gram, except the negative program of opposition and that does not completely hold water because many of the Republican memK-'will go along with a majority ' Truman program. The GOP policy committee holds t o decid periodical meetings what position to take on a givec bill, but even these meetings do not result in any agreement since men like Aiken of Vermont, Flan-- ! ders of Vermont, Morse of Oregon, Thye of Minnesota, Ives of New York, Baldwin of Connecticut. Langer of North Dakota, Lodge of Massachusetts and others, do not see with the leadership of the committee which is wrapped up in Senator Taft of Ohio. So no matter what the policy committee decides, these men are left pretty much to their own thinking on the problems before the senate. Then there is a seeming disagreement between house and senate Republicans. The senate GOP campaign committee is going its own way, detouring around the Republican national committee on both matters of policy and operation. The senate committee has hired e Victor Johnson, strategist for former governor and presidential candidate Harold Stassen, as a public relations director. The house GOP campaign committee, headed Joe Martin by the wily of Massachusetts, is planning its own policy and operation and while giving lip service to Chairman Hugh Scott of the GOP national committee, is preparing to set up its own publicity staff and conduct its own operations. The senate committee, according to information is starting off with $50,000 In the kitty, but the house committee is not so well off and will start from scratch to raise its own money to better lis press relations and get its public relations story over to the people. The progressive Republican leadership is hoping that ultimately they will come up with a unified program upon which they can go to the people, but that time has not yet come. With the party apparently so hopelessly divided, whether that time will ever come is a matter for conjecture. Simultaneously whether or not the split between northern and southern Democrats is so deep that it cannot be healed and will endanger the Truman program also is a matter for conjecture. If so, then this congress will eventually turn into a coalition congress of southern Democrats and northern Republicans and will operate ineffectually, much as the 79th congress operated. one-wa- WaiaaWiwittiW , T v.. a m Hi. r ,1,uL.a,,.Jr ? .v jar ' , e i wwcoifl -- 1 i P, 'Xt Glory in f ne Power . . . fastened a harness on the rivers, a harness in the form of the vast masonry of yoke the power of failing water and transform that energy into electricity for homes, farms and factories- - With dams, too, he can store water in great reservoirs and dole it out for irrigation projects, and he can control rapacious floods.
