Iosco, Huron, St Clair, Midland, Manistee, Mason, Gratiot and Wayne. Michigan leads all other states in salt production, says the Detroit News. The three principal areas are those around Saginaw, n Bay City and Midland; around and Manistee, and around Port Huron, St. Clair and Detroit. Much of the salt is produced from brine, formed by pumping water into the salt formation, though there are also rock salt mines.
