Stoker, county agricultural agent. Good results are secured if poisoned alfalfa leaves are distributed in small handfulls a few feet apart along trails in the fields where the rab bits are traveling or feeding. Occasionally good results are obtained by baiting with salt or green alfalfa leaves during the summer; however, these methods are not to dependable and in moat cases the rabbit population is not reduced sufficiently to prevent crop damage. When one considers the fact that 14 rabbits eat as much dry feed as a sheep and 12 rabbits eat as much green feed as a sheep, it is not difficult to con ceive of the damage that might be done b y these rodents if allowed to become very numerous. Last year 460 pounds of dry alfalfa leaves treated with tsryc- hine, were distributed by 22 far mers of the county. Reports se cured from 19 to 22 cooperators showed that 349 pounds of bait were distributed over 1,672 acres with an estimated kill of 3,873 rab bits. The average percentage of rabbits killed on the areas treated was estimated at 63 per cent, the highest being 99 per cent. One farmer reported a count of over 200 rabbits killed within a small area with one baiting and a total count of 396 with subsequent baitings. He estimated a km of 600 to 600 rabbits on 160 acres. Jack rabbit numbers very considerably over the county in various areas from year to year; however, they require constant control measures to keep them in check. Individuals located In jack rabbit infested areas should make arrangements with the county agent as soon as possible for baiting their fields. I v.... vl... .... fa 7 irm?tmm feK.
