S. church academy, known as Murdock academy, which served as alma mater for thousands of Southern Utah students. The site is one of the most historic in this part of the state. Lee's ranch, commonly known now as Cox's ranch, is significant in local as well as southern Utah history due to many Indian massacres which occured 'there during the first years when the white people were settling here. On one particular occasion a white family living at the ranch extinguished a fire, which the Indians had started on the roof of the ranch house with the family supply of milk. The ranch is located several miles south east of town.
