One week from Sunday the fish in our lakes and streams will again match their wits with hundreds of Isaac Waltons, both young and old. Big and little catches will be made. Big fish stories will be told, but the biggest story will be told by the fisherman that says he never saw anyone using hamberger to catch fish at the Little Reservoir or at Hi-Lo- w. The use of ground beef (hamberger) is becoming more noticable each season. Because fisherman per sisted in usiner this method it became necessary to close Kents Lake to fishing earlier last season than usual to protect the plantings of fish that were made in the lake. n fact that fish can be removed It is a from our lakes faster by the use of hamberger than they can be raised in our State hatcheries for planting It costs Utah sportsmen thousands of dollars evey year to raise fish only to see them removed from our fishing places by this illegal practice. It is time for the sportsmen of this county and of this state to take definite steps to stop the use of this unsportsmanlike bait. Never will our streams and our lakes be well stocked with fish of any sporting size unless the greater part of every planting remain from season to season to grow and reproduce. We have on our beautiful Beaver Mountains, as near a fisherman's paradise as any sportsman could ask for. We are blest with numerous lakes and streams to which we can all go with in a few minutes drive, which should and would be well stocked with fish if the use of hamberger were stopped. Now, is the time to act. Will you, considering yourself a sportsman, do everything in your power to protect your fish from being needlessly slaughtered or will it be necessary for the State Fish and Game Department to have legislation enacted making the use of hamberger a misdemeanor and subject to punishment by law.
