Mrs. James Valentine returned to her home Monday from Sclpio, where she went to attend the funeral of her brother's wife, Mrs. Elliott Wllden, Jr. The members of the West Ward Relief society gave a nice surprise to Mrs. Eb Gillies last Friday, meeting at her home and sewing up all her carpet rags. They were also served with a delicious lunch. Mrs. W. L. Tolton and family. who have been spending the win- ter here with relatives, left last Sunday for their home in Provo. We regret to learn of the death of Mrs. James R. Simpkins, formerly Miss Rowena Bird of Springville, who died at that plae March 19. She suffered several months of leaking of the heart, but her death was hastened by contratcing whooping cough. She was the mother of three children, two of whom survive her, the youngest being five months old. Her noble character and many good deeds will stand as a monument to her memory. Mr. Simpkins is superintendent of a mine at Silver City, Utah, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Sinmpkins, formerly residents of Adamsvllle, Beaver county.
