P.ird, 5!, was sentenced from one to ten years in the state prison, after pleading guilty to the charge of embezzling- funds from the State bank of Sevier, specifically $1000 on January 7. Bird, assistant cashier at the bank, was arrested January 27 by Sheriff V. M. Fairbanks on a complaint filed by County Attorney T. A. Hunt. He waived preliminary hearing, was taken before District Judge N. J. Bates, where he waived statutory rights and was sentenced after pleading guilty to the charge. The banks loans are said to be well secured and the depositors can be paid off almost in full when the banks assets are liquidated. Mr. Hunt claimed that Bird admitted taking $40,452.17 from the bank during the past eight years. The complaint against Bird specifically charged him with embezzling $1000 on January 7, eleven daya beto fore the bank was closed.
