A. at Washington, D. C, J. C, Hogenson, Ext. Agronomist, U. S. A, C, Mr. Wilford Day and Mr. Sessions of Parowan were taken over the county for an inspection and recommendations. A noticeable fact standing out in Dr. Fisher's mind in the Milford Valley was the lack of diversification. Mr. Fisher is not a livestock Man so said little on that; but he knows the dansystem, especially gers of a one-cro- p one like alfalfa seed where there is but one right card in the entire deck making one to win and fiftyone to lose. He could readily understand the tense feeling so apparent among the growers in the valley. In the Beaver Valley he was struck by the old stands of alfalfa that have gone largely to dandelions thus reducing the yields in many cases as much as 50 per cent. He recommended that these fields be broken as fast as possible and put into grains for a year or two, after which they could be put back to alfalfa if desired. Production in the valley could be materially improved and increased by this system. The party had luncheon with the Milford Lions ,and lata in the afternoon made a trip to Iron County. There, after seeing the 120 acres of beautiful potatoes on Mr. Day's farm, they forgot their preferance for the) crops of the soil and enjoyed an of the world famous rambou-illet- s being prepared for the sales and fairs this season. If they are not well fed, they will be scrubs regardless of how they're bred. This holds true in every line of livestock. , Our Insect Pests Insects destroy or materially reduce yields of many of our crops each year. This year cutworms, grasshoppers, and lastly the false chinch hues have cut into incomes in satisfying their ravenous appetites. The false chinch bug has and still is causing considerable worry but, on the whole, has done little real damaee to general farm crops. Some damage has been noticed in gardens and small areas. Where infestations are bad enoueh to cause justifiable damage, Dr. I. M. Hawley, entomologist of the U. S. A. C. says relief can be gained by spraying thoroughly while the nests are in the nymph stage with a soap solution of nicotine sulphate (Black-lea- f "40"). This solution is made by dissolving C pounds of laundry soap and 1 pint of nicotine sulphate in 100 gal lons of water.
