APPRECIATES KINDNESS OF BEAVER CITIZEN'S J. F. Tolton Is in receipt of the following letter, expressing the appreciation of Mr. J. M. Monahan for the kindness received from the people of Beaver at the time his mother was buried here: Butte, Mont., Jan. 9, 1929. My Dear Mr. Tolton: My first thought upon returning was to discharge a debt of gratitude, I owe to you. You embodied indeed, everything that the word neighbor implies. Your long association with our family enabled you as no one else could, to voice sentiments that I cherish and will continue to revere while life endures. Of your eloquent sermon, which softened the terror of the grave and recalled memories of days that we are all wont to look back to as perhaps the best that life has afforded. To say that I shall long remember with enduring appreciation, your kindness and your eloquence, is to state a truth most gently. In this connection, I desire that you advise the church authorities of my keenest appreciation of their kindness in giving us the use of the church free gratis for the funeral services, and to all others whose kindness and thoughtfulness in that most trying time perhaps in man's life, I wish you to convey my grateful thanks and appreciation. Nothing could have impressed me more, and nothing will be more lasting in my recollection of that sad occasion, than the kindness of yourself and citizens of the city of Beaver. Trusting that fortune may long delay a similar sadness to yourself, I am. Your most deeply obligated friend, J. M. MONAHAN. When Jim I'.ucliflor. imw it iiieinliei Scout of the L A. V., J.lneI the l! This morning I was lying on my bunk wondering how to spend a day off. I thot of what I might be doing If I were elsewhere. At the same time I thought of the day as Christmas to some people but just another Tuesday for me. The word was passed down the company street for all men to report to the company office. Each man was given a small bag and naturally the place looked like a Saturday night rush. I fortunately received the bag pre pared by Mrs Tattersall and yourself. Every article In the bag was jusj the thing for any man at Christmas time. I certainly want to thank both of you ladies for the thoughtfulness which brought about my receiving your remembrances. The day is noy Christmas for me as well as for others. Someone must have misinformed you all about the 'Sunshine and Flowers.' The sunshine Is here, in fact too much of it. The flowers are all buzzards millions of them. I am enclosing a snapshot of my self taken while on duty here in Managua. I have been in the marine corps for nearly six years and also have three years in the army, with quite a bit of time spent in France during the rather warm times there in 1918. Am 29 years of age. Until last summer I was stationed aboard a battleship. We expect to be back aboard her the latter part of next month. The first of April we Sincerely, Cpl. L. Loyd Marshall. P. S. If either of you ladies or your friends are ever in Los Angles or near there and the 5th fleet is in be sure and visit the Tennessee. I'll be very glad to show you over a ship on which 1600 men live all the time. This letter is only one oi many that fchow the Christmas bag projoC, to be a real, needed service. K. K. Frank, Secy.
