Show 'I " h-- Wednesday, May Carbon High, Murray open The state Class 3--A Park in Murray yesterday afternoon, (Tues), with Carbon playing Murray at 3 prn. in opening day activity. Coach Skip Leo's Dinos are in the upper bracket in the tournament along with American Fork, Dixie and their first round opponent, Murray. Grundy had already been named earlier as the KOAL winner of a similar basketball award as the outstanding player named by the sponsors of the cage sport broadcasts last winter. Spanish Fork won the event with a total of 90 points and Davis High School was a close second with 86 points. The Dino points came on a fifth place finish in the half mile by Jeff Callor who posted a time of 2 :04.60. Howa was all-regi- in football, won the 185 pound division in the state wrestling tournament for competition and participated in the weight events as a member of the track team. One of the five this year included former Helper Chief of Police Joe Myers along with Claude Cowley, Toy Atwood, Luke Pappas and Mr. Plaga. Chief Myers is a native of Bingham, Utah, was raised in and graduated from Sun-nysi- 12. Coach Plaga attended local schools, was an all-sta- te football player at Carbon High, outstanding baseball player for the Dinos and Helper American Legion teams and now a highly successful prep coach at West High. His football teams have been in finals the the state Class last three years, winning twice. His baseball team is in the State Class 4-- 4-- A tournament in Salt Lake this week, having won the Region Three title. Plaga has won the state baseball title two times at West High and the state American Legion championship three times. He is a graduate of the University of Utah where he played college 1:59.36. Sophomore Max Cunningham gave Carbon a sixth place in the discus with a heave of 130'5" and Frank Zubal was also sixth in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet.
