June 25, Effective July 1975 Mrs. Bryner retires after career Kitchen Komer Blue ribbon winner, Hungarian coffee cake by Shelly Babcock Try this tasty, blue ribbon award winner, Hungarian Coffee Cake, and this delicious Mustard Ring submitted by Mrs. Geneva Black. 1 cup milk (scalded) cup shortening cup sugar 2 teas, salt 4 cups flour 1 teas, grated lemon peel 2 cakes yeast V4 cup lukewarm water 2 eggs Combine milk, shortening, sugar and salt and cool to lukewarm. Add yeast (dissolved in lukewarm water) Stir in 2 cups flour and lemon peel, beat until smooth, add eggs and mix throughly, add remaining flour and mix to a soft min. dough. Knead on lightly floured surface about until smooth and elastic. Place in buttered bowl and cover with cloth. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again. After second rising, cut dough into pieces the size of a large walnut. Form into balls. Roll each ball in y2 cup sugar, 1 cup melted butter, then roll in a mixture of this walnuts Vz for more (double cup teasp. cinnamon, mixture) Place on layer of balls so they barely touch in a well buttered 9 inch angel food pan. Sprinkle with a few raisins, coarsely chopped nuts and candied cherry halves (optional or just use marachino cherry halves.) Add another layer of balls, pressing them in slightly and sprinkle with more fruit and nuts, continue until all dough is used. Let rise 45 minutes, top it with remaining butter. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 or 45 minutes or until done. Invert pan so that butter sugar mixture runs down over cake. To serve, break apart with fork. Mustard Ring Best results when served with baked ham. Vi cup cold water 1 tablespoon Knox gelatin (Soak gelatin in cold water until dissolved) 4 eggs well beaten 34 cup sugar 3 tablespoons dry mustard cup vinegar Cook in saucepan over slow heat until mixture is of mayonaise. Add dissolved gelatin, stir and mix well. Cool. Whip xk pt. whipping cream and fold in mixture. Pour into mold, cover with saran wrap and refrigerate to set. Mrs. Myrtle Bryner Mrs. Bryner was born Myrtle Ross in New Mire, Colo, and moved to Utah with her parents and two sisters at an early age. She was graduated from Carbon Senior High School and chose nursing as her life's work. She graduated from the Holy Cross Hospital school of nursing with an R.N. degree in June 1930. She began working in the Spring Canyon Hospital and later was an industrial nurse for two years in She Consumers. also worked at Carbon Hospital. Later, during the war years, she left nursing for a to a become time for her bookkeeper husband's business, Bryner's Service station. In 1963, she began working with the Public Health Dept. She has been the nurse for five Carbon County schools. She is concluding her career as a public health nurse after having been one for the past twelve years. Mrs. Bryner has suc ar cessfully combined a nursing career with being a homemaker, wife, and mother, and still found time part in civic affairs.. In 1932 she married Merrill Bryner. They built their home the same year at 74 Bryner St. and she has lived there ever since. They had one daughter, Nancy Frisbie, and three granddaughters, living in Great Falls, Montana. Mr. Bryner passed away in 1970. She is active as a member in the Methodist Church and has been involved in several clubs throughout her life. She has served as president of District No. 4 Utah Nurses Association, Helper Women's Club, Price Sorosis, P.E.O.E., Eastern District of Utah Federation of Women's clubs, served on Utah State Federation of Women's Clubs as recording secretary, historian, and corresponding secretary. She has done volunteer work with the blood bank for many years, as well as given time to the cancer clinics glaucoma clinic and blood pressure clinics. Within the past two months, she was named Club Woman of the Year for the Eastern District of Federated Women's Clubs and she was nominated for the title of Club Woman of the Year on the state level. Currently she is serving as the Bicentennial Club chairwoman. She is also serving as a board member for Mental Health, Planned Parenthood, and Senior Citizens. He was 52. Dr. Winters was born Oct. 8, 1923 to William F. and Evelyn Gunn Winters in Hoytsville, Summit County. He was active in community affairs, having been a former scoutmaster and district commissioner for the Boy Scouts, chairman of the Four Corners Mental Health a Association, member of the Carbon Sheriff's Jeep Patrol, Elk Lodge No. 1550 and the American Legion and a member of the LDS Church. He was a veteran of World War II.
