Veltri's took charge of the Miner's Trading game in the second half, coming back from a five point deficit at half time to grab a two point edge at the three-quarter and mark dominated the play in the last period. Rufus and Pollock scored all the Veltri points in the fourth quarter with the exception of a couple of foul pitches by John Borla. The of rebounding Hezalee Ellington plus his 12 points were also a big factor in the Veltri win. The winners pretty well contained the East Carbon team with the exception of Ernie Valdez who picked up 22 points on an amazing display of shooting. Shane Timothy was the only other player in double figures for Miner's, finishing with ten points. It was the second ICAC win for Coach Curt Jenson's Eagles without a loss and avenged a two point loss to Mesa in the invitational tournament at Grand Junction the previous week. Helper's Nate Ellington continues to hold down a position on the starting Eagle five at guard and the former Carbon High came up with nine points in the Mesa game. Ellington saw only limited action in the encounter as Coach Jenson went to his bench early and often in the game. Cortney Anderson from all-stat- er one-side- d Kearns High School led the eagle shooters with 21 points and ace Chris Randall finished with 20. Jenson cleared his bench before the game was over and every man in the lineup shared in the scoring barrage. The Eagles had a Monday night game in Logan with the Utah State Jayvee squad, the only team to beat CEU on the Eagle home court this season. Following this game the Eagles will be pointing towards the big weekend in ICAC action Friday and Saturday when Dixie and Snow invade the Eagle lair. The Dixie game will be played at Carbon High School as part of a high school - college in the Dino gym Friday night. The Snow game in the armory Saturday night begins at double-head- er 7:30 p .m. Carbon March of Dimes kicks off fund campaign The Carbon County chapter of the March of Dimes has organized for another year of campaign against birth defects. In a recent kickoff banquet County Chairman Joseph Delpha, introduced the members of the campaign organization. They include: Campaign director Mrs. Alma Rae Procarione, Helen and Secretary Milovich who will be for Carbon County activities in the annual March of Dimes Telerama; Laurie Jewkes chairman for the Mothers and March; Activity Chairman, Rasmussen. Pearl Susanne Sapford will be in charge of the Prenatal program at the Carbon Hospital. Dennis Jensen has been appointed treasurer for the county group, and Stewart Fausett will work with publicity for the March of Dimes. Mr. Delpha also introduced Kimberly Clark, seven year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Clark of Carbonville, this years' poster child for the Carbon March of Dimes. Other volunteers who are working this year include in the North Carbon area: Norma Higginbotham, Carbonville; Pat Sloan, Helper; Edna Bath, Martin; Donna Thomas, Spring Jim Mussatt and Esther Sanich. Photo Local fans get double basketball treat Local basketball fans will get an unusual opportunity tomorrow night (Fri) to see both the Carbon High and College of Eastern Utah cage teams in league action on the same night. The Dinos will take on Lehi in the Carbon High gym in the first game of a double-heade- prep-colle- r that will see the Golden Eagles tangle with Dixie College in the nightcap. The high school game is on tap for 7 p.m. and the college encounter at 8:30 p.m. Carbon High had a midweek Region Six game Wednesday night at Spanish Fork where they were looking for their first league win after five straight losses. Lehi will bring a 6'9" native Brazilian to the Dino gym Friday night. The youngster being an exchange student from the South American country reportedly with a wealth of basketball experience in his native country. Coach Curt Jenson's CEU CAP needs squad will be looking for their, third ICAC victory in the Dixie clash without a loss. The Eagles will be at home again Saturday night, this time back on the familiar National Guard Armory court for another ICAC tussle with Snow College. Game time for this contest is 7:30 p.m. The two southern Utah JC teams will be exchanging Mesa with opponents College in Grand Junction and CEU over the weekend. Snow is playing under new coach Ron Ableggen this season following the departure of Carbon native Gary Bliss from the Ephraim school for a position as assistant at Indiana State at Evansville. Foul trouble plagued Carbon early in the game and the real turning point came just over two minutes into the third quarter when Dino center Larry Newby picked up his fifth infraction and went to the bench.
