The Helper Journal 2, 1975 Take furniture, jewelry Thieves hit Helper home Christmas Eve Thieves put a damper on the Christmas activities of the Wayne Cyf ers family of Helper last week as they Market struck Dec. 22 Thieves struck the Workmen's Market in Helper late in the evening of Dec. but 22 apparently were frightened off before they could leave with any stolen articles. According to Helper police chief Karl Sta var, the burglars kicked in a back dqpr to the West Helper store and backed a car up to the door to load their booty. Stavar said that two passing youths spotted the attempted burglary and He said informed police. when police arrived the burlgars were gone but had left a pile of articles outside the store that they apparently meant to steal. Stavar said the manager of the store found only cartons of cigarettes and boxes of candy missing after an inspection. According to Helper police chief Karl Stavar the Cyfers' were in route home a vacation in from California when the burglary occurred. Stavar said the thieves apparently forced open a door to the Cyfers' home at 57 C Street in Helper and ransacked the place. Stavar said a Cyfers' daughter was watching the home and reported nothing unusual on the morning of the 24th. However, when the family returned home late on Christmas Eve, they discovered the burglary. Stavar placed the time of the burglary at sometime between 8 and 10 p.m. on Dec. 24. He added that the iwnoT! job was undoubtedly done by someone who knew that the Cyfers' were out of town. O.
