Helper City water is fit for culinary use despite the brown color reported recently by many residents, according to watermaster Karl Stavar. Reason for abnormal color in the water is because "the springs are working up" at this time of year and post crews have been working on the city waterlines, Mr. Stavar reported. Because of the increase in snow melting in the higher mountains, city springs are now producing 150,000,000 gallons every 24 hours compared to 620,000 during the winter months, watermaster added. This water increase has caused greater sediment movement around the spring areas. Mr. Stavar said the water doesn't have to be boiled since it still is chlorinated. City paints parking stalls City crews last week painted parking stalls on Helper Main Street. According to Harold (Puggy) Nielson of the street department, the city performs the job each year around this time after the long winter months.
