May 4 3, 1973 Lawrence Payne Fifth custodian named for Helper Auditorium 'Mm I ; ! li "Keeping things neat and clean and satisfying to the public" is what Lawrence Payne of Helper said is required of him on his new job. Mr. Payne was recently hired by the City Council as new custodian of the Helper Auditorium, to succeed Ron Paletta, who had the job for three years before stepping down recently. The new auditorium custodian has lived in III custodian of the Helper Auditorium. He succeeds Helper for 27 years. Most residents may remember him as their mail carrier, a job he had with the Helper Post Office for 24 years. Before securing the city job, Mr. Payne was a custodian at Carbon Hospital for two years and eight months. He said that although his new job requires irregular hours, "I like it here. It's a lot closer to home." Mr. Payne is the fifth Therman Carter, E.L. Jones and Pete and Ron Paletta. Photography is one of Mr. Payne's hobbies. He said he remembers the days he took newspaper pictures for Cliff Memmott, a former Helper Journal publisher. Mr. Payne and his wife Teresa live on Bryner Street.
